Kovalev was not only seen as a legitimate threat by Canelo critics. But he was seen as such a big threat by fans like you, that you predicted Canelo would drain him and not fighting him at the full 175lb limit.

Of course after the fight, Kovalev became shot.

Lastly, Canelo Alvarez LHW career has not taken off yet, as he only has 1 fight there. And his 1 fight at 175 was a better win than his rivals have on their record.

Listen, even if he next fights Beterbiev and Bivol, some are already taking those as cherry picks. Teddy Atlas just went that route in his podcast. Andre Ward too with his latest comments saying Beterbiev looked "beatable" in his last fight.

Mayweather was right when he used to say "It comes with territory" referring to hate and how it goes hand in hand with fame.

1) Yes he was technically ranked 1 by the ring, but the true fight for 175 supremacy took place around the same time and that was Beterbiev vs. Gvozdyk. No true non casual fan in their right mind thought that Kovalev was as dangerous as those 2 or Bivol. His #1 ranking came from what he historically did had nothing to do with the fact that he was now chinny got KOd by Alvarez, almost KOd by Yarde. Anyone being honest wth themselves knows the real power rankings at 175 were Beterbiev, Bivol, Gvozdyk all ahead of Kovalev. Canelo knew this too, he wasn't ******. Andre Ward more or less vanquished the Krusher during their first fight and broke his soul in the second fight. The Sergey Kovalev we all know was gone.

2) Canelo was a -420 favorite to beat Kovalev, that's not much of a legitimate threat. Compare that to GGG where Canelo was +125 in the second fight.

3) Nobody who is being honest with themselves was saying that the Kovalev who fought well in the second Alvarez fight, but tentative behind a jab, or the Kovalev who fought well against Yarde, but almost got KOd and once again showed a very poor ability to deal wth adversity in round 8, wasn't shot.

4) He COULD beat Beterbiev and Bivol but we need to see it to believe it.

When all's said and done I do think Kovalev was a GOOD win, but I don't consider it as good a win as the BJS, Jacobs, or even Plant wins. Those guys, while overrated and not elite, weren't coming for a payday and weren't war torn like Kovalev.

Some fans, not all fans, but some act like he beat the same prime Krusher that Ward beat which is total bull****.

Whats smoke & mirrors is your post history,you used to say Canelo was ducking the best at jmw,mw,smw,& that he'd weightdrain Kovalev to 170,(Kov came into the ring heavier than v any other opponent in his career,Fact)

Well, give him a chance to fight at that weight class first before having premature theories.
