Originally posted by jrosales13 View PostFirst I would like to give my 2 cents about the post you did of the hypocrisy of us fans who agreed with Oscar. You mentioned B-Hop-Pavlik, great point. Nobody before the fight was saying that B-Hop has to KO Pavlik. And, is a fact that after the fight including me was calling B-Hop ATG. But, I want to counter that by saying. B-Hop was an underdog going into the fight was he not? That is the difference. While PBF is the somewhat of a overwhelming favorite against JMM. Remember after the fight B-Hop stared at the media with a teary eye. Cuz most of the media and a lot fans did not give him a chance. I think thats the difference. I don't think I am being hypocritical at all.
Now on to you question. Here is the think true in the weigh in Oscar weight 154 and PBF weight 150. Now you saying there was 16lbs disadvantage is that a fact? I don't remember HBO showing what the unofficial weight was. So I don't know how much Oscar put on or how much PBF put on.
Also going into that fight to me PBF was in his prime while Oscar was way passed it. I felt Oscar was more of a promoter than a fighter at that time.
If Oscar did outweight Floyd by 16lbs then IMO that would be a disadvantage for Oscar cuz he would lose the speed to match PBF don't you agree? I know you will disagree but that's my opinion. Is ok you can call me a PBF hater.
But, I think your point is that weight dosen't matter and I respect your opinion. But, I will just disagree. So you trying to make it as PBF is not that big and he beaten bigger ppl. However, before that Oscar fight PBF dominated 3 fights a weight-class below. While JMM had problem in his 2 fights 2 weightclasses below. I honestly think whoever thinks the weight is not a big deal is not looking at it clearly. Now saying all that I still think is a tougher fight than most think. And, I give JMM a great chance on pulling the upset.
Weight does matter how can it not in a weighted fight ,the trick is in how you use it , the bottom line in all this is Floyd is a great fighter , so much so that people dont think its a fair fight unless he is way smaller and handicapped , that he must KO fighters that the current P4P best could not do with the same advantages Floyd has over JMM , Floyd must KO fighters that nobody else could KO , the hypocrisy of it all .

1) The 164 number that I got on fight night for Oscar came from Roach. He disclosed it when discussing Oscar’s weight in the post-Pacquiao aftermath. I’ll try to find it for you.
Also, the WBC 30-day mandatory weigh-in had Floyd at 151 and Oscar at 165. That is a researchable fact. You can independently verify.
2) You are absolutely right. Pavlik was a favourite over Hopkins. Despite the fact that Pavlik was moving up two weight divisions. Why? In my eyes, that only underscores – not detracts from – my point. The weight difference was not perceived to be a substantial issue.
Some might say that people thought Hopkins was shot. I will kick that person in their testes. Just one fight previously (a few months) Hopkins knocked down Joe Calzaghe in a very close fight. a fight that many people think Hopkins won. Bernard was a guy who people can’t even remember being KD’d, and some were predicting that Kelly would KO him.
The weight was not the issue then…but it is now. Odd.
Also, the concept of “favourite” is not something I give a lot of credence to in assessing a fight. The odds are just a mathematical reflection of how people are betting. And most of those people are not knowledgeable about boxing.
3) Would you please address the Clottey/Corrales reference.
4) My point is not so much that weight doesn't matter. It's that the actual weight difference b/w May and Marq is rather small.

.
But if Oscar was way past it for FMJ at 154, what did Pacquiao really accomplish? Did Oscar somehow re-prime?

Another style I think that could beat is a quick southpaw. True PBF dropped Corley twice, and true he beat Judah easily. However, Corley did stun Floyd and Judah gave PBF hell for 4 rounds. I think and this is just my opinion that Pac is faster and has more power than both Judah and Corley and also is more confident and mentally stronger than both. Who can fight effective from round 1 to round 12. something that Zab is not capable and never has been.
Also since you ask me about Floyd old fights. Have you ever seen Floyd old fights? Now that he is a WW he has slowed down a lil bit. Just look closely, he use to be able to throw a combo in the fly. He would be able to dominate from round 1 to round 12. Now he starts slow, he is more safety first and became a pot shotter he dosen't really throw his combos or often enough like he use to. I think the weight and his age is having an effect, I just don't thing he has faced the real top level comp to really expose it.

1) When Bernard Hopkins had Kelly Pavlik move up two weight divisions, how many of you were saying before the fight that B-Hop needed to KO Kelly? In fact, after that fight, this forum lit up with "OMG, Bhop is ATG" threads. Did Hops come close to stopping Kelly?
What does it say that Jermain could knock down Kelly, but Hopkins could not?
2) Clottey is one of the more respected fighters on this board. How many of you lost respect for Clottey when Diego Corrales moves up two full weight divisions to fight Clottey? And keep in mind, Josh may be the biggest WW out there, having come into the ring as high as 170?
...and how do we know that Diego Corrales can be stopped? Because Mayweather knocked him down five times en route to a 10th round stoppage.
What does it say that Floyd could stop Chico, but Clottey could not?
This is boxing, gentlemen. It doesn't work that way.
