He's going to have to face these guys eventually if he's got serious ambitions about being number 1. Agree that he shouldn't be charging headlong into those kind of fights next but his career needs to managed in a way that at least anticipates the prospect of those kind of fights in the not-too-distant future.

benn is not claiming to be the best or anywhere close to it, most think he will lose when he does face better guys, so slow and steady is better for him

No....they did not....at least not genuinely. Both know that About Billions would put a price tag on himself that noone will pay. Thurman might shout the name as a smokescreen to try and stay relevant in the news....but that fight would be equivalent to Amir Khan vs Billy Dib at this point. At 20 fights Prograis was fighting guys like Indongo and preparing for Josh Taylor.

I mean, get real. Just take a look which guys Spence fought before getting a title shot. Guys like Bundu, Lo Greco, Algieri.

Since when should top rising contenders fight each other before getting a world title shot?

I mean, add some logic into your virtual match making. You would be terrible advisors for young fighters.
          Exactly.

It’s funny too, Nobody actually seems to be screaming for Ennis to fight any fellow top prospects, But they’re given him a massive praise for beating somebody coming off two back to back losses against D level fighters. Yet Benn is expected to jump right in to huge fights.

I know it’s not an Ennis v Benn thread but people should be fair about things

Ennis fought a guy 3-18 in his 14th pro fight

Some people hype him up so much that it will have that kind of response.

You have to keep somethng in mind here Jake: Ill throw out a few names here: Tommy Morrison & Fernando Vargas (Nando). Both of these guys had an excellent team manage them and decide things like who to fight, when to step up, etc. If you look at those decisions, who made them, and the whole context of each guy's rise through the ranks, it was all very deliberate & careful. It was done so the respective fighter(s) would peak properly, and demonstrate greatness when his time came, no real short cuts.

The thing you see now is these same decisions, etc made for the sake of business and not what is best for the fighters. This promoter won't work with this guy... yada yada... Meanwhile? Tank has been brought along slowly thats for sure. Tank at 28 has not fought anyone yet and is passing his prime...he is nowhere near where a well managed fighter should be, thats a fact. Nando, brought along slowly and carefully was 22 years old when he fought Tito Trinidad... 22... let that sink in for a moment.

BTW? Morrison was 24 when he fought Foreman.

You see a problem here? These guys are nor fighting quality comp, they are passing their days because boxing has turned to crap and no one cares to properly bring along a fighter. 28 years old... no one to speak of on his resume. that is pathetic.

I think the point you’re missing is they’re not advisors, they’re boxing fans, so they wanna see contenders mix it up. It would be ****** to advise Floyd and Manny to fight in 2009 but as boxing we wanted to see it way earlier regardless of whether it made “business sense” or not.

Tbh I have little interest in seeing Benn get brutally KO’d by Ennis or Ortiz. They’re levels above Benn, it wouldn’t even be competitive.

Benn should either fight David Avanesyan for the EBU title or if that’s too big of a step up, fight Ekow Essuman for the British title.

Bundu was the reigning EBU champion and had recently gone 12 with Keith Thurman. Bundu was a decent fighter.
