If only Arum had not "killed" the Pacquiao vs. Crawford fight!!! What could that have done for Crawford? If only Arum would've let Floyd fight Oscar, instead of trying to make Mayweather vs. Margarito? Would Floyd have stayed at TR? Bob admitted that he "didn't know how to market Mayweather to the "Urban" market!" History often repeats itself!

Mayweather turns down $8 million to fight Margarito

Arum said Mayweather preferred to await the outcome of the May 6 Oscar De La Hoya-Ricardo Mayorga fight instead of committing to Margarito because he would prefer to fight De La Hoya.

"We're not sitting waiting on De La Hoya," Ellerbe said. "He's in a tough, tough fight with Mayorga."

Many in the sport believe a De La Hoya-Mayweather fight is the biggest fight on the horizon and the only one capable of generating 1 million-plus buys on pay-per-view.

The reason Mayweather opted for the buyout rather than waiting for the May 6 result was because the contract had a limited window for the buyout, one that expired before the De La Hoya fight. However, Arum said he would have extended the window if Mayweather had asked. What Arum wouldn't do, he said, was raise the guarantees for other fights outlined in the contract.

Arum said while Mayweather would have taken the $8 million to fight Margarito, he asked for a $10 million guarantee to fight opponents such as Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton, when Arum was only willing to guarantee $7 million.

Arum said Mayweather also asked for $20 million to fight De La Hoya, a fight Arum said he wasn't interested in participating in.

"That's not in the cards," Arum said. "He wants $20 million for the De La Hoya fight? It's not there. Sometimes, my man, you gotta know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em. We'll talk about things down the road."

Floyd Mayweather Jr. rejected promoter Bob Arum's $8 million offer to fight welterweight titlist Antonio Margarito, and he instead exercised a provision in his contract to buy Arum out.

Bob Arum admits he killed Pacquiao-Crawford fight, didn’t want to see Manny take damage

“Well I killed the fight. Yeah. [I wouldn’t want that for Manny] because I know how it would end...Not that I knew that it would end in serious disability for Manny — that I wouldn’t know — but as a fight it would only end one way.

“Forget my emotions, I wouldn’t wanna see him take that kind of damage because it might affect his future life — quality of his future life.”

Crawford should definitely venture out and test the waters to see what's best for his career at this point. Nothing bad to say about Top Rank, but this seems to occur with all of their top fighters.

Same thing is happening right now to Shakur Stevenson trying to to get the fight with his Top Rank stablemate Oscar Valdez.
Fuuny thing is, Arum was going to give Navarette the Valdez fight instead of Shakur! So what's after that?

Emanuel Navarrete announces free agency, could eye unification at featherweight

If I'm Shakur, I have to feel some type of way! Floyd, Crawford, and probably Stevenson next!

At Bob's age he wants fighters like Fury that are brash and loud. Crawford isnt that guy. His best bet is to do a fight by fight with Hearn cause that dude loves the spotlight and see if he can turn him into a household name by getting the big fights.

Arum must have forgot that it's a promoter's job to promote the fighter. He had a 3 division champ who knocks people out. Also, ESPN is a crappy platform for PPV.

Crawford is a cold collected killer, he’s in exciting fights, is stopping top level guys who have never been stopped and he’s a welter. He shouldn’t be that hard to promote.

I think Crawford is going to get a little dose of reality if he hits the open market. He can't follow the Canelo blue print because he doesn't bring in that type of money, realistically, who is going to pay him what he wants? Let's look at the options, PBC? A Spence fight will bring in money, but that's because of Spence, is Crawford finally going to take the short end of the stick for that fight? Probably not, even though he should, if PBC actually signs him, the best they can do is put him on Showtime because they would pay the most, but it would be in the 1.5 to 2 million per fight to fight on Showtime, would Crawford take that? And then there's DAZN, which would probably offer something similar to Showtime, but who exactly is he going to fight on DAZN besides Ortiz which Crawford has shown no interest, Golden Boy? Probably not, he would fight on DAZN as well with the same issues. So? What is he going to do? At some point Crawford is going to need to realize that he's going to have to cut back on what he's asking and take a risk by accepting less money and fighting and beating Spence, or Ennis, or Ortiz ect ect. Don't be surprised if Crawford all of sudden becomes inactive because of his stance....

                2. Crawford is boring but Arum is his promoter, if he can't sell then Arum needs to take some of the blame.
Boring? He's one of the most skilled and exciting fighters in the game. A true killer that goes for the stoppage in every single fight...In terms of personality? Sure, but there are plenty of boring fighters in terms of personalities. It is hard to be a PPV draw so that shouldn't be something Crawford gets killed for, but Arum needs to stop saying he is losing money on every single one of his fights. So is he losing money on every single of Lomachenko's fights or Fury fights? Crawford routinely does better gates and sells more tickets than both those guys...Lomachenko himself is making close to 3M a fight, so how is Arum not losing money on his fights? How is he not losing money on Fury fights when he makes over 10M a fight and does less a million at the gate (Non-Wilder opponents). Why does Arum just mention this same line for Crawford after every fight but no one else?

Sounds like a failure of promotion both in promoting your fighter, the fighter’s inability to connect with fans, and an overvaluing in the contract

Crawford was smart to start with Top Rank, but after the Horn fight he should have moved on. This mistake cost him all of his best years of his professional career. Kind of big mistake, that's easy to spot from behind a keyboard. Hope to see Crawford come up now, he deserves it.

Crawford is fun to watch but his personality is pretty dry. I think at the highest level, people want to hear a louder mouth and someone crazy outspoken. Heck, Kamboso JUST won and he's connected with everyone. I haven't read a bad thing about him on any video interview/highlight on the net. People love him already.
