You can only do that when you're a belt holder and the sanctioning body forces a purse bid, which is the only reason the Porter fight is happening. If not cuz of WBO, Crawford V. Porter would not be happening.

It helps if your active, you have a country behind you, you're the cash cow of a powerful boxing commission and you've had 3 mega fights against elite fighters.

We’ll soon see. I’ve said a few times that, although promoters are **** blockers, and some boxers may well be in awe of their team’s ‘superior’ knowledge and spiel when it comes to navigating their career and income, some ARE probably content to sit back and not kick up too much fuss about their direction.

As far as I’m concerned, if he goes free he’s got a ‘clean slate’. Then we’ll see if it was him or old man, Bob, acting as the obfuscater.

There’s truth in this. I saw it said a year or so ago that Mayweather couldn’t have been anywhere near as successful if he didn’t present as a ‘heel’ or villainous type of character when promoting fights.

Obviously can’t say for absolute certain, but I’d imagine U.S. media wouldn’t be quite so keen on a black guy sat reading ****ing Mark Twain in his spare time

Crawford had a chance at Pac but never accepted the money offered so the fight never got made. Boxing’s a business and deep down Crawford is cool with good paychecks fighting bums. Another Peter Quillin.
I won't begrudge him for making the most cash for the least effort. But he's not going to get sympathy for his frustration because HE re-upped with TR knowing all the great fights would have been against Haymon fighters. As far as the Pacquiao fight, to be fair, I think it was Manny who priced himself out to avoid Crawford?

The other negative for Crawford is that he has zero charisma. He also feels that the onus of promoting him is all on TR and that they're not doing a good job of it. That may be true, e.g. Arum referring to Terence as a money-losing investment, but Crawford needs to step up his self-marketing beyond arguments with car mechanics.
