Would have served him better to have faced a Benavidez before this fight. Canelo is P4P number one but he can’t keep relying on power to bail him out every night.Boxingmean likes this.

Honestly? Forget how many rounds were won by whoever. The bottom line is Canelo looks horrible. And he has for awhile. His power eventually bails him out. Imagine what a Roy Jones Jr. in his prime at 168 would've done to Canelo ? Or even if Hagler moved up 8 lbs. Canelo fights all these British guys, Khan, Smith , Saunders etc. Now Plant(USA) . I've been watching boxing for over 50 yrs and Canelo , in my view , is very ordinary. What he is , is a decent boxer , with a great chin and good power. He's very fortunate he doesn't have to deal with " greats " in their prime. It is what it is , he's the best of a bad bunch. It's not his fault. He was fighting tougher fighters years ago. Now he's just collecting paper belts that look great on the resume.

Ok this is what I call a perfect fight by Canelo. Canelo broke him down first. Perfect body shots, power shots and plant just couldn't take it anymore. I think from the fourth round Canelo took over. Plant was doing pitty patty boxing while Canelo had the intention to knock him out. Every punch is with a bad intention Canelo threw.
This is what I've been saying concerning this other fighters. They are not active enough and their fights are not competitive so they don't have much looks for canelo.
It's funny coz Canelo is the one that's more competitive than all of them and keep fighting the tougher fights.
IMO Caleb Plant lost this fight coz this is more like his first tough fight so he didn't have much looks to dig from for Canelo except "hit and not get hit stuff" but Canelo has seen it all. He has experienced all styles and had that hard physical experience to go through any fights. He is well equipped and he has paid his dues so this other fighters are just there to lose when they face him.
Canelo is the king of the jungle...

realistically... that is Canelo's toughest fight, period
Beterbiev is more abrasive, but Benavidez is a better fighter... the better fighter has a better chance against Canelo, Beterbiev is straight up and down
Bivol would get Plant'ed
cruiserweight is not realistic
