For future - Canelo needs opponents casual sports fans know or have seen fight. Big challenge. Can’t expect fair weather fans to shell out $60 over and over for fights where they don’t know the other guy.

Your analysis on the demographics of those fanbases is way off, about 15 years out of date for MMA especially. You're also way off in your belief that there arent crossover fans, because tons of people watch both. Lmfao @ seriously thinking only 10% of PPV and ticket sales for major boxing matches come from white people too.

It's an intriguing fight. Plant presents a stylistic difficultyn seen for Canelo since Lara, although not the power threat of Golovkin.

Especially with plant being so unknown to casuals. Willing to bet casuals in Tennessee don’t even know who he is. You’re basically investing $50 million+ into Canelo. Canelos star power has definitely grown since he was last on showtime but idk if that’s gonna translate to more PPV buys with this opponent. If I had to take a wild guess I’d say this fight maybe does 450k-600k buys. I’m not gonna do the simple math everyone else does cuz frankly it isn’t that simple. But if I’m guessing correct that’s probably around where they wanna be. If they do 600 plus live gate I think everyone goes home happy.

Showtime & Al Haymon aren’t in the business of losing money but maybe they’re willing to lose a little on this one in the hopes that they can recoup later by keeping Canelo around & happy. Maybe the next guy doesn’t get 10 and maybe Canelo doesn’t 40. Maybe the ticket prices will be even higher. Who knows. These people know what they’re doing. And I don’t care this flops or not. Just like i never wish failure on ESPN, FOX or DAZN. When these guys fail it hurts the sport more than fans realize
Part of the reason boxing is failing in the US is because the price point for a PPV is getting higher and higher for fights where everybody knows who is going to win. It's no surprise that people are streaming the fights for free. Casuals don't care enough to pay $80 to see Canelo make a personal appearance. That's kind of what this fight is. Watching a popular boxer go to a cash machine to make a withdrawal. Maybe Plant will make a fight of it. Am I willing to pay $80 to find out? Or will I save my money for a competitive matchup like Crawford vs Porter? Good luck to Canelo and PBC. I hope they do more than break even. Do I feel an obligation to keep millionaires rich with fights like this? Do I feel an obligation to support boxing's business model? Non competitive fights for $80? Boxing has been headed this way for quite awhile

Nah. Who else is there to make big fights with? Benavidez isnt a BIG fight other than to hardcore fans. Charlo isnt serious. And unless Browne pulls off the unthinkable, they dont have any 175lbers either.

Alvarez could miss all night, lose every round, get knocked down twice, and Moretti and Weisfeld will still have it 117-111 Alvarez.
Not wasting my money on a fixed match when a real fight is a click away.

Boxing has been “dying” since they first used that phrase circa 1910 or so….for a sport that’s “dying” seems to be making the most of its prognosis. WWE and ufc both have PPV and they are doing fine. The real problems are that boxing has no real stars who appeal to the masses across the board. Everyone knew Mayweather’s name….everyone. Every racial and ethnic group, from die hard boxing fan to casual to sports fan to non sports fan. That is what’s missing…..stars, promotable stars. Personality, pinache, flair, presentation, and talent all matter.

Problem with golovkin is that he tried to win those fights doing nothing but jabbing, he never tried to impose his will on Canelo especially in the second fight.

OK then, let's make it happen!!!
Charlo is more of a mismatch than Plant. Charlo has looked terrible at 160 and his first fight moving up to 168 will be Clenelo? It will be a slaughter. Of course that is what clenelo wants it is the softer touch.

I have a feeling if this goes to the cards it’s gonna be hella shocking what they reflect. It’s been in the air just kinda like Bradley vs Pacquiao had that promoter shadiness all over it. Wouldn’t be the worst thing for boxing as well. Boxing needs a shakeup every now and then.
