Man what low expectations to say that Canelo deserved that 2nd fight lol. He took off like 4-5 rounds that GGG won just on activity. Canelo didn't even have a clear dominant round in either fight, because even when he did good work, GGG matched him because he is way more active.

Canelo fought well and impressively in fight 2. He did stand his ground and made GGG fight in the middle of the ring. He still lost like 8-4 though. He got outlanded almost every round, again

Out landed by the jab perhaps but power shots scored, Canelo out landed him. GGG corner did not judge the fight the way you scored it. I had it 7-5 Canelo and at the time i was a fan of neither. If the fight was awarded a draw i would have had no complaints but 8-4 either way is a bit far fetched

Yup I hope the december fight with Murata happens but I havent heard nothing from him. Hope he keeps going and SADLY the case with him as with LOTS OF eastern Euro guys for some reason is: THEY START TOO LATE. GGG didnt get any big fights in his 20s, only by mid 30s which is when you on the decline already.

Whats up with this turning pro at 24 ****? If you been boxing since forever why waste time in the amateurs. Prime example of this is Lomachenko, great boxer, who wasted time winning two olympic gold medals, coulda won one, then turned pro.

Agree with that, for a fighter who was called a poor backfoot fighter by Chepo Reynoso GGG did quite well , circled without getting backed up to the ropes and I felt he took the fight with his jab especially in the later rounds.

However the fight was very close so not too much to complain there , but it was set in stone that Canelo would always be given the benefit of doubt in such situations.

I don't remember Gennady ever being hurt. I do distinctly remember Canelo buzzed in the 10th round, with his knees buckling. I also don't recall Golovkin's back every touching the ropes in the second fight. I do recall Canelo's back up against the ropes in the second fight. I saw two guys holding it down in the middle of the ring. That was the story of the fight, not Kellerman's narrative.

As I said, GGG outlanded him like 8 of 11 rounds ( 1 tie). GGG's jab is a really good hard punch, it's no tap. Idk what you're talking about as far as GGG's corner goes, they say things all the time to motivate their fighter. After the fight he said he felt GGG won. Teddy Atlas had it 8-3-1 after the fight - as he asked, 'are we not scoring the jab anymore?'

I think Abel had the same view immediately after the fight that I did - that GGG won but against the superstar in Vegas Canelo was going to get the result he needed. No need to cry over spilt milk. Canelo fought well that fight but to find him any more than 5 rounds is really sad tbh. It's a really low bar for someone. To get Canelo a result in that fight you have to ignore all the work GGG was doing

The funny thing is the only round where GGG was really backing up was round 5, but it was a clear round for him (or should have been) - he outlanded Canelo by like 8 punches and landed the best punches of the round. A lot of people with GGG just see red - they give over the top credit for his opponent's work and seem to ignore a lot of GGG's.

I guess we just have to call it like we see it. I had both fights playing out similarly with regards to the scorecard, though Canelo fought better overall in fight 2, vs fight 1, for me. Canelo starts strong and his quickness edge helps to match GGG's output.

Then Canelo slows down for the middle rounds and GGG warms up and even ups his pace some. And in both fights he swept a lot of those rounds pretty clearly to me. Then Canelo gets a 2nd wind and the last few rounds are competitive again.

As you said though, Canelo was always going to get the nod in those types of fights. It is what it is, and GGG had the opportunity to do a bit more and take the judges out of it but couldn't do it. He also got paid extremely well thanks to Canelo so I don't think he can be too unhappy about how that all unfolded.

Yeah. I know. You're absolutely right. I don't get it; why there's all this hate for Golovkin. He hasn't done anything to cause it. He should be a favorite of every boxer. And we both aren't saying this because we're fans of Golovkin. Well, I'm a fan at least, but I'm also bluntly honest with all fighters, even those that I like. It's easy for me to grade purely on what happens in the ring. I can detach myself from my feelings. And Golovkin just outworked Canelo. Like you said, he landed the more effective punches.

And this whole narrative of Golovkin backing up is ludicrous. He was moving laterally a lot of the time, taking angles. People think of Golovkin as this puncher that's oafish in his fighting style. But that is so far from the truth. He used to be a decorated amateur who knows exactly how to box on the back foot and there front foot.
