I think DAZN and Triller are done spending all that money and not getting much in return especially here in the U.S. and honestly I don't blame them. This Market for Boxing SUCKS! Yeah throw FOX in their too if they don't renew with PBC, also ESPN seems to be showing less and less boxing and far more UFC.

So I think the issue is the sport in general on top of having its fans being so SH%T and seems to want the sport they claim to be fans of FAIL!

I'm assuming that them giving Mikey Garcia $7 Million for Vargas, they likely lost a lot of money on that event and so yeah maybe they are reluctant to give him anything close to that amount knowing that they will lose money again. PBC too though, I mean they're trying to give Canelo a huge chunk of their Budget right now to do Canelo vs Plant so yeah even Prograis said they're waiting on Canelo in a recent interview because they depending on who gets that fight it will effect someone budget. Whoever don't get the Canelo vs Plant fight, will have the budget available to maybe invest in Garcia vs Prograis

“But, you know, we done a Mikey Garcia fight against Jessie Vargas. That was back in a period that we talked about earlier, where we were extremely aggressive and probably paying the wrong money for fights. But I do like Mikey Garcia-Regis Prograis. I think it’s a really good fight. It’s just gotta add up to the other fights we have planned for the schedule, other obligations we have with our actual fighters, you know, rather than guys that we don’t have contracts with. And that’s where that priority has to lie.”

This is what happens when the money is not spread evenly like in the UFC/MMA model.
Undercards in boxing get paid crumbs, if you want to be sanctimonious about life being risked.

Only a handful of fights get made because promoters are too focused on established names.

Any alternative to this fight that is also fun but cheaper?

How about Josesito Lopez vs Regis Prograis?

DAZN had an awesome card last night.
And it's probably 5x cheaper than fights with big names.

Promoters need to focus more on these types of fights.

I don't mean to sound like a hater but I really don't understand peoples wish to see Garcia fight I find his style so boring and ineffective he seems like a good guy in interviews but his fights make my eyes bleed last time he ever did anything remotely interesting was at Super Feather

I think the free agency status is actually a problem, not an advantage. Promoters like to have control. They ideally want to sign a guy to a long contract and then pick fights for him they know he'll win while developing his popularity. So PBC, Arum, Hearn, DLH etc. will want these guys on longer deals, not a one-off. Also it's a 50-50 fight so promoter would want options on both. It just makes everything harder to negotiate.

The free agent status can work for the fighter if they generate enough revenue (Canelo, Floyd, Pac, etc) for a promoter even if it's a one-off fight.

There aren't really that many fighters out there who can generate those levels of revenue, I like Mikey and Regis but they certainly don't belong in that category.

That's the point. Garcia has never been a PPV attraction, probably never will be especially in this day and age of boxing.
Fight of this size used to be not that hard to make. Even fighters in PPV fights are not guaranteed to the range of $7 million.
That's what Mikey got in the Vargas fight. He probably wants the same amount in this fight with Prograis.

                    Yeah, it's that bad.
