I think the free agency status is actually a problem, not an advantage. Promoters like to have control. They ideally want to sign a guy to a long contract and then pick fights for him they know he'll win while developing his popularity. So PBC, Arum, Hearn, DLH etc. will want these guys on longer deals, not a one-off. Also it's a 50-50 fight so promoter would want options on both. It just makes everything harder to negotiate.
Good post. If a dude like canelo has problems making fights with no network deal, then these dudes are really up sh-ts creek.
