  • Comments Thread For: Pacquiao Promotions Prez Slams WBA Over 'Super' Title Drama

In a period of 12 months, from July 15, 2018 - July 20, 2019, eight-division world champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao lit up the welterweight division by knocking out WBA "regular" welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse, successfully defending that title against former four-division world champion Adrien Broner (world-rated No. 6 by the WBA) in January 2019, and solidifying his hold on the title by unseating undefeated WBA welterweight "super" champion Keith Thurman in July 2019, to become the oldest fighter, at age 40, to win a welterweight title.

A fair point from Mr Gibbons, but I don't think Manny cares about the titles that much now.

He's interested in taking on a big name and new young star in Spence, and see if he can get another big win before he retires.

Whatever it balances out as pac has received titles he didn’t deserve in the past also with the intention of chasing the farce of being an actual 8 division champion. Either way, whether that belt is involved or not, it doesn’t add to the interest of the fight. The fight will do good numbers regardless of a lame title.

Now hold on there just a minute Sean Gibbons. Don't trash the belt when you could still potentially get it back lol. Then it would look crazy to have Pacquiao carrying the belt you just insulted. I agree with what Sean is saying, and they need to rectify this issue immediately. Keith was inactive way longer than Pacquiao was, and you have to keep in mind the uncertain environment that the pandemic wrought. And if the WBA failed to notify Pacquiao of what was going to happen, then that's a very bad look on the organization.

WBA is trash. Just make Pacquiao the Super Duper champion, keep Ugas as Super champ and then have a regular champ and an interim Champ...then give me a championship for coming up with the solution. Easy peezy.

The fight is going to sell regardless Manny is a champ or night. There is still a titles at stake and the WBA won't be getting their sanctioning fees.
