I do agree that they did nothing to earn that shot but we’ve seen plenty of dumb things with these organizations. The WBA let Floyd skip the line & fight cotto for the 154lb strap & then allowed him to defend it against Maidana in their rematch at 147 lol. The WBC let Canelo skip the line and fight that scrub for Benavidez’s vacant belt. The big earners/stars always get special treatment
not just in hindsight, people knew it was a set up then. Pac was a -300 favorite going into that fight. Significant favorite to win. As far as belt organizations being shady and showing favoritism, yeah you’re right, but your examples are slightly off. In those other examples you gave, Floyd moved up and faced a champion at 154 in Cotto, canelo got to skip the line and face an established champion at 168, in pac vs Margarito, neither guy had done anything at 154. You’d be hard pressed to find a situation where two guys from one weight class were allowed to fight for a vacant title in the next weight division when neither did anything of note in that new division.

Which record keeper has him down as 5x lineal on their records? A article writer claiming he's 5x lineal doesn't make it so.

You've backed up nothing you claimed. b..b...but an article writer said..........

Run along casual, just repeating what you hear.
He beat reigning champ sasakul for the lineal flyweight title.
I think the ring had stopped awarding belts during that period.

He beat reigning champ barrera for the lineal/ring featherweight title.

He beat marquez for the ring/lineal super feather title.
It was vacant at the time but pacquiao and marquez were the no. 1 and no. 2 respectively.

He beat reigning lineal/ring champ Hatton at junior welterweight.

And at welterweight, floyd had retired in 2015 as the lineal champion so pacquiao and Tim Bradley were the top 2 contenders. Pacquiao beats Bradley to become welterweight champ.
Cbz and transnational boxing both recognise him for this. Ring magazine doesn't.
Off the top of my head I can't remember why the ring didn't crown him or what other fighter was more deserving. I'm sure someone will say in the chat

I still gotta disagree about Pac beating Margarito being a guaranteed win. Pac was the favorite because he was red hot on a destructive spree but I still remember the general consensus being that Pac would probably win but there was a fear the massive size difference could be too much for him down the stretch of the fight.

you’re right about my other point though only fight in recent memory that comes to mind is Davis vs Gamboa for the vacant WBA. Gamboa was already at 135 I don’t recall him beating anyone for that shot, but then again it was also for the “regular” strap. But yea it’s all about favoritism and money with these belt organizations.
