I think Prograis would have been a tougher fight, but it is what it is. I don't see where Tank goes after this. He won't beat Taylor, and doesn't want Teo or Loma. Does he dare to squeeze down to 135 for Haney?
i think he realizes there wont ever be an easier opponent to beat for a "title" belt at 140 besides this guy. obviously hes not a real champ and all that but the propaganda machine doesnt care about that. it was like when broner went up to face paulie who had just robbed cesar cano. just an easy fight on paper to make your resume sound better

Probably he'll go back to crushing his standard Mexican flyweight cans at 126.

Or maybe rematch revitalized Gamboa at 140?

a healthier gamboa at 140 is too much for tank. i can also see tank making his own division at like 137 and having a bunch of great fights there. that way he can say im too small for 140 and those guys and i cant make 135 and fight those guys. im stuck help! i have to fight bums on ppv!

That'd be great. The weight divisions are too close together anyway. The world is his oyster. Ryan calls a fight with Gervonta a legacy fight. He then pussied out.

Davis is 5'5" moving up to 140 after fighting at 130.

To fight a guy (Barrios) 5'10" who is likely ~150+ lbs and undefeated with a good ko%.

How tf is that not a risk?

Isn't this pretty much what people wanted from Mayweather with Margarito? Who's best fight was like what? Antonio Diaz? And held a vacant WBO title. Essentially what Barrios is now.

Then to say "didn't want to fight legitimate threats" at lightweight.

Well, let's see who these legitimate threats are.

Teofimo – Who was scheduled to fight Kambosos Jr. June 19th but pulled out of the fight due to "positive covid" test, delaying the fight to August potentially.
Haney – Who fought Linares on May 29th.
Garcia – Who ducked a fight with his mandatory, Fortuna and taking a hiatus from boxing because of his mental health concerns, due to his social media use.
Linares – Who fought Haney on May 29th.
Lomachenko – Who is fighting Nakatani on June 26th, the same day that Davis fights Barrios.

That's the "legitimate threats" at the lightweight division. All booked or just fought a 12 round fight just before the start of this month.

What was Davis supposed to do? He tried to set up a fight with Ryan Garcia, who then backed out of that fight to potentially fight in an exhibition before then backing out of that and receiving his mandatory, before backing out of that because of his mental health.

So, what was Davis supposed to do? Sit and wait for Haney or Linares? Hope Teofimo drops his match with Kambosos (and easier fight btw) to fight him? Hope Lomachenko forgets a rematch with Teofimo to fight him?

People always say "xyz is what's wrong with boxing" but reality is, you fans that hate on matches like this. A small guy moving up in weight to fight a pretty risky fight with a bigger boxer; high risk, low reward, are the actual problem with boxing. Sheesh.

Past his prime no kos in five yrs Lsc had one fight at 130 against a nobody who he struggled against for a bs vacant wba title..just like the one he is fighting b-level Barrios for.

Davis will never fight Taylor…wont risk that 0. Keep the “safe” fights coming against past their prime pillow-fisted fighters - Gamboa/Lsc and B-level fighters with average skills - Barrios. As long as they have that all important Hispanic last name…the old Andre Berto Pbc formula.
