Ellerbe, Mayweather and Al Haymon are taking a similar measured approach to Davis’ development as they did when Mayweather withstood flak for taking certain fights when frustrated fans wanted him to face other opponents.

Mayweather was universally considered the top pound for pound fighter when he was doing his cherry picking. Stank is nowhere near that level but Keith always making excuses for PBC. -
Best fighter in boxing? Based on what, stopping Pedraza 4 years ago and destroying Leo "Malignaggi" Cruz? I don't expect it to be an easy fight, but let's not act like Barrios is some elite talent lol.Comment

Perhaps I'm mistaken about this, but it looks like Davis enjoys humiliating his opponents. He's a very skillful, powerful fighter. But doing that kind of stuff is likely to get him in over his head one of these days -- making him the guy everyone wants to see lose. Hopefully his coaches and his mama will pull him aside and explain the virtue of being a gracious man, especially in victory.Comment

This is the second article trashing Davis and his opponents saying he doesn’t have the resume of T.Lopez, R. Garcia or D. Haney. What boxing do y’all be watching? Or is it just carry over mayweather hate…..?Comment

I like Tank. I’m not happy with him fighting far above his weight class cause he don’t take his gift seriously.
That said, I do t think this is a smart fight for him. Virgil Hunter KNOWS how to deal with Tank. Barrios has NATURAL abilities to give Tank a hard time. If Barrios implements the game plan. It’s a tuff night for an embarrassed Tank. Another thing to consider is Tank is a small man with a big punch. I don’t think Barrios is going to feel something that shocks him but Tank MAY. Barrios has a long reach and has NATURAL heavy hands.Comment

I was working under the unvoiced caveat that the promotions are all doing their level best to keep things in-house, man..... I think that's pretty much a given these days. In that kinda case you can't really lay the blame on any individual fighter or promotion cos they all got a share of the blame. 'Least, the way I see it.
He beat LSC back in October was it? They announced this fight, what? - 8/10 weeks ago. You could argue that they waited for 6 months and in those 6 months they could surely have got a fight organised with one of Haney/Loma/Lopez. Lopez would have given up his IBF to fight Tank. Loma would have jumped at it. Haney too.
But here's the thing - for the last 3/4 years Ellerbe and MWP have been declaring that Tank is gonna be a PPV star.
This has 2 favorable outcomes - 1/ if you declare it enough the casuals will actually tune in to see what all the fuss is about and 2/ by declaring their man the A side it frustrates great fights from coming to fruition because they're going to demand a huge 'A' side purse no matter the merits of Lopez/Loma/Haney. I'll be surprised if Lopez Tank gets made any time soon. More chance of Spence-Crawford.
EDIT: But yeah your final paragraph is roughly how it works I reckon. I might not like it but it's smart promotion.Comment

Margarito had a vacant wbo title won with nobody on his resume.
yeah this is just like fighting margarito...hes tall therefore they are the same! first of all marg had a legit belt. this barrios guy has an interim belt. second of all marg was ranked #1 in the division for 5 years. this guy just got ranked 8th and that ranking is based on a robbery win so in reality he shouldnt be ranked at all. third of all floyd had years and years to fight marg. if you are talking about when floyd ducked marg in 2006 marg had 2 top 5 wins already, a win over the #6 guy, a couple more top 10 wins, and a win over undefeated sergio martinez(didnt look as good at the time) if you are talking about marg pre 2009 when floyd still could have fought him he had the same resume but added 2 more top wins over clottey and cotto. i dont see a single top 10 win on barrios' ledger. essentially they are the same? umm no.
also tank has had 4 years to fight someone and he hasnt done it at 130, 135, or 140. you cant excuse away 4 years of ducking, dodging, and cherry picked bum fights. we all remember how loma pulled his card and he went running. the bi-tch wouldnt even fight alberto machado or tevin farmer. those are the type of good solid wins that would have boosted his credibility if he wasnt ready for the best. he wasnt even ready for them! he tried fighting abner mares for crying out loud! pathetic!
And margarito lost the belt to PWill so the draw was even less appealing.
Down play Barrios if you want to but if he wins don’t make a single comment besides you were wrong. In fact, if Barrios wins, you tag me in your apology comment. Admitting you were wrong. LmaoComment
