The other week I watched the stiopic vs ngannou 2 fight and I looked at the VIP audience how they dressed & Acted told me all I needed to know about the social media world we live in.
America is dominated by fake celebrities and social media creations and it seems to have had a negative affect on it and that’s not a knock ...it’s not personal fella
the ironic thing is one of the most "fake" celebrities and biggest product of the youtube cultuer wants to be a fighter lol..i absolutely despise the whole talentless youtube/tik tok/instagram celebrity who doesnt really have any spec of real talent....its like kids becoming millionaires opening toys on youtube....but its funny that paul kid actually wants to fight and learn how to....

yeah boxing teaches life lessons and disciplines other sports dont....but not really...its all up to the individual...boxing still has its fair share of lazy underachievers who disappear if they dont have a fight...dont stay in the gym unless they have fight schedule...party....gain too much weight in between fights......playing other sports and maintaining a certain level also requires tons of discipline too...football, basketball, baseball, soccer(for you euros) doesnt just require showing up

a baseball player by the name of david ortiz played his last year at age 40...his numbers were .315 38 hrs and 127 rbi...those are great numbers at any age and suggest he wasnt over the hill and should retire...they suggest hes still an all star HOF caliber player that can continue to play....you know why he said he retired? because at age 40 he was tired of having to diet and spend hours in the batting cage to maintain that.....all sports at the top level require discipline...team sports build character and camraderie...

people in the US just dont care all that much about boxing anymore...its too tough to follow across too many platforms...fights are often on late...its just lost its overall luster....people get more hypes for youtubers or nostalgia fights

if you knew how tough american football was youd have a respect for it...the speed of the game...the best athletes in the world play it and it requires many different types of top tier athlete....its grueling....guys can barely get out of bed the day after a game....its taxing...its a high speed, physical, chess match....to the untrained eye who doesnt know whats going on it just looks like a bunch of guys running around and falling.....

    • I think part of it is the migration of athletes to the NFL and NBA but it's not all of it. It's a catch-22 however there are no Mike Tyson's around for young potential American boxers to be inspired by or motivated by so there are no future Mike Tyson's.

Mike Tyson was at least the LeBron James or Tom Brady at his peak popularity wise, there are no American boxers who fit that mold now. There are no top American talents to inspire the younger generation. I think Wilder just threw away whatever chance he to be that the last year+.

I don’t doubt it’s not physically exhausting and tough but we have rugby over here as well and we know them boys are one tough sons of bs and it’s the same for NFL.......not every big guy over here go’s into rugby and you have to be talented at it and I just do buy the NFL excuse because ufc has a huge following ....nothing beats being the the heavyweight champion of the world and it’s still the coveted title in the world.

Jarryd Hayne was a star rugby player but couldn't hack it in the NFL.

There's levels to it just like in boxing.

          • Their amateur system sucks, I Dont buy the NFL excuse, they aren't linked other than by "athleticism", I don't think ridick Bowe or Ali would have been good NFL players, ya dig.

            • American heavyweights lost their dominance to Lewis and Klitschkos, the balance of power has shifted. There are very few great trainers in America today and few talented heavyweight boxing talent in the amateurs. the sport is dying in America to the point that the biggest stars are still a 55 year old Mike Tyson and wanna bees Logan and Jake Paul. They need Holyfield vs McBride to help sell Teo Lopez. Crawford sells nothing. Spence piggybacks off Mexicans. Wilder draws nothing. The Eastern Euros and Brits have totally taken over.

              • Boxing always got the left over athletes, Ali was not good at any other sport, Tyson was only talented in boxing. Bowe, Holyfield same deal. American heavyweights were always the leftovers. Foreman and Norton, no accomplishments in any other sports. The blaming NFL and NBA for attracting all the best athletes is a myth.

It’s a weak argument as your highlighting the most talented NFL players who in all honesty is in a different league to a former boxer who decides to go the NFL route.
if Mike Tyson was around today he would smash any NFL players salary out the ballpark and Anthony Joshua would as well.......The mayweather vs pacquaio fight did as well
I was pointing out salaries not included with endorsement boxers don't make that much. At 18 and twenty is when they start training and if they have options like a division 2 college they're going take it. You know why youtubers do boxing its because they're popularity is waning so they do some bs to keep their names going ask the current population who Andre Ward was during Kovalev fight and no one in the United States outside the hardcore fans can tell you. Ask everyone who's casual who Jon Jones is and 30% will tell the rest will ask you in an impolite way who he is. Society has moved on from boxing. In Ali time the NBA was there but there was 15 teams and about three other leagues it wasn't a billion dollar league till Jordan and has expanded since. Yes MLB was there but again you had to be skilled and more people knew Ali for his mouth and personality than his fighting ability. And he was paid that much his earnings was less than Wilts and the kids understand that. The parents know what makes money and can get their children a future guess what it ain't professional boxing. Those athletes who didn't make are now more scrapes of the barrell as there are fewer talented ones. Maybe if Ray Robinson and Ali weren't brain damaged or Hagler lived past 66 people would be clamouring to get their kids into boxing. Unfortunately, the time we live in is those dudes either die early or have brain damage that many sports do not have. You don't care to research but their is a Euroleague and Chinese league which pays more than punching someone lights out. The reason you see fewer Caribbean hw and those that can play baseball is there a whole system which players can be amateur, semipro, minors, pro and then major league. Final thing all those leagues don't need the public to buy it on ppv as they have tv deals that can help them pay the players, the staff, the stadium workers and tax. UFC doesn't only make money off ppv and with Fox and Espn they don't really have worry. Boxing the niche sport that it is was late to streaming, was late to network and can't even outdraw hockey. I'm happy there are fans like you but how about you take a road trip to the United States and go state by state and ask those same ghetto project kids who Spence is, who's Wilder, who's Bud. 95% will not know who the hell you're talking about but they will know NBA and NFL players. And while you're at it go find a gym in those big cities because NY has less gyms than parishes and the parishes are closing down while LA gyms aren't pro gyms and are scattered. Only Vegas has gyms throughout the city and the closes metro is Los Angeles which is 300 miles away.

Mayweather did well with the whole money persona and that was to a generation of the population who if they were honest wanted to see him lose. And that's not helping your point as that fight is six years old and since how has the health of boxing been? Mike Tyson happen during the four kings dominance of the welter and middle weight division and also during a lull in the HW division in America. Also Don King and Bob Arum were still hungry and good promoter, although they were p.o.s human beings. You're bringing up an era that happen and isn't going to happen again; Holyfield and Tyson lost everything which is why they have fight at 50 years old and which should be disheartening for you is that fight will sell better than most active boxing fight. People see boxers in bad health and finances down the drain they're not letting there kids train at 12 regardless of their circumstances. The team sports pay their players taxes to keep the IRS off them and all of those leagues give pensions for playing in there leagues. Do players go bankrupt, yes but do to personal financial mismanagement. Boxers have to pay promoters, managers, trainer, strength coach, cutman and many others before seeing revenue from those fights. So again why do that when the team pays for your coaching and other trainers and if you need extra training you can pay yourself.
