I hear what you’re saying but I don’t see Ortiz going back down anymore.

Let's take a closer look at Spence's resume. He basically with life and death with Brook, and had Brook not fought GGG prior I think he probably loses that fight, then If not for the KD against Porter that fight was a draw. His best performances came against guy's that had their best days at lightweight, and If we're being completely transparent and honest here, Spence is really a middleweight. He competed and started his boxing career north of 147lbs and had to gradually shrink down to 147. He's actually naturally bigger than quite a few guy's at 154.

Now taken all that into account with him now being reluctant to face a guy that came up from LW, 135lbs and unified and won titles all the way up to 147 in TC, a guy that's already older than him and has been calling for a fight with Spence for over a year now is a big part of why Crawford is mentioned in the top 5.

Now you call it comical, but I'd like to see you lace up the gloves and win titles in 3 diff weight classes because then I think you'd have a lot more respect after realizing just how difficult that is regardless of who the opponents are. It's easy for us to sit behind comp screen and talk that BS but weight is weight and it's not easy to just move up and beat heavier guy's like that.. I know this just from having scraps in the streets, let alone getting in the ring and going 12 rds lol
Can't stand the ignorance of you guys that keep saying Spence started his career north of 147lba without considering context.

By the way, Thurman and Porter also started north of 147lbs.

          Get a clue bruh.

In the amateurs, the welterweight limit is 152lbs.

So if you are a welterweight in the amateurs, and you turn pro, you're gonna find yourself in no man's land because the welterweight limit in the pros is different to the Amateurs, and its obviously gonna take time for you to get the formular right to make the 147 limit properly.

          • Was a good fight. Hooker tested Ortiz, and Ortiz persevered. is he ready for a top five WW? No, but he's young and will continue to make improvements.

            • Maybe time for some new commentators? (feel like I say this every week)

"Bodyshot! No, he broke his hand! No...he dislocated his shoulder....from a bodyshot....Canelo against Smith.....His elbow..."

the constant ****riding is bad enough, but they don't even know what the **** they're seeing in the ring.

              • My hats off to Vergil Ortiz on a very spectacular performance and Maurice Hooker on a very spirited effort. Also, cong**** To Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy on producing a very good card. This is exactly what the sport needs; Homegrown talent from the scratch. Oscar is building stars. He helped discovered both Ryan Garcia and Vergil Ortiz before they were prospects. Those two are the future of the sport.

I wasn't even talking about the amateurs dude, I know all about the limits there.. I'm talking about his pro fights, in addition to that both Porter and Thurman are short about 5'7 5'8 so they are welterweights. Porter even made 144lbs for the Broner fight. Spence is about 5'10 and closer if not the same size as Lara...and naturally bigger than both J rock and Lubin imo.. and like I said even Floyd has stated Spence is a big guy anyway and needs to move up when he had trouble getting fights, like he did..and the way and tone he said in, it was like he was saying why is dude even at welterweight lol

I don't really have a problem when a guy is young squeezing down to 147 but once a guy is over 30 years old and walking around at 180lb+ in between fights it's like come on now, look at what Canelo is doing as short at he is, that's greatness when you're able to fight at your real weight not a disguise with a built in advantage....

and rumor has it Spence was having trouble with 154 pounders and that's the real reason he competes at weltweweight, and he's even said himself he only feels about 70% at welterweight, probably why he doesn't want to face Crawford because he know he isn't 100%

Does it really matter? He broke His will, and made him quit. I'm sure it's because of Ortiz's power. And as far as you're other comment, I agree about him being young and it's always better to wait a bit longer and get more experience, but, wether his ready or not for a top 5 WW really does not matter either, just like Ortiz said last night when asked about Crawford. If opportunity presents itself you have to take it, even if he lost to Crawford, or Spence, it would be a a learning experience you can recover from in his career because he's young. I'm going to tell you right now, win or loose, he would give anyone at WW a run for their money and I would take my hat off to Ortiz because it's a breath of fresh air to see a him take risk unlike other fighters like Charlo, Andrade, even Crawford himself who waste their careers wasting time and wasting their careers waiting for the perfect fight and payday. Regardless what happens this guy is a hanf

Well said! They wanted that KO so bad, they didn't recognize Hooker broke his hand/wrist punching Ortiz in the head! I would like to see Ortiz fight Pacquiao, Ellis, or Avanesyan next. He's not ready for Crawford yet! I think Boots Ennis would outbox him 8-4 if they fought right now!
