he wouldn't have even beat Herbie Hide. Mercer does him worse than Ruiz and Bowe or Lewis stops him in 2 rounds or less. In the 90s, he'd pretty much be what Bruno was at the end of his career. A big guy with a good punch. He'd beat Michael Grant though
Lennox destroys him systematically. Bowe fooks up his day. Real Deal is smaller so AJ gives him problems with his size, but Real Deal gets the W. Tyson probably eats AJ up in the early to mid 90s. Foreman & Tommy Gunn have punches chances but I could see them losing if they didn't stop or at least hurt AJ. Tua is probably too small, but obviously if he catches AJ it's game over.
Randomly I think AJ vs Mercer would be a fun fight if they'd both existed in the same timeline. Probably depends on how hyped up Mercer was if he comes out on top.
AJ beats no verson of Holyfield prior to his 3rd fight with Bowe. Stop this foolishness.. Too robotic

For some reason, AJ/Mercer is the first fight that came to mind for me as well
Behind Lewis, in the mix with the others, arguably second best of that time. Bowe got battered twice by journeyman Golota. Acting like Joshua couldn't beat Bowe is laughable. Joshua would toy with Douglas, who beat prime Tyson.
It's not comparable as his life, upbringing and training would have been totally different.
So the answer is nobody knows.
Very good, well done.
I have mentioned many times before, how far do we take these mythical match up threads? Are you transporting back the fighters to the 90's, with no prior knowledge of themselves accept 'That they are fighters' etc
Joshua benefits greatly from new age training, and so does Tyson Fury to a lesser extent. When I evaluate historical match ups, I take all of this into account.
Mike Tyson would of been the same fighter he was in the 80's and 90's back in the 70's, because of his training methodologies that he used 'They where predominately old school'.
Old School fighters for me, are fighters who can survive in any era. Joe Calzaghe, Carl Froch, Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather are just a few who I think come under that category.
