De La Hoya (24-0) claimed his fourth world title at the age of 24 by taking Whitaker's long-held World Boxing Council welterweight belt in a unanimous decision at the Thomas & Mack Center. Although many saw the bout as even, two judges had De La Hoya winning the fight comfortably by 116-110, and the other had it 115-111.
Whitaker scored the only knockdown of the fight, in the ninth round; he connected on 232 punches to De La Hoya's 191, according to CompuBox Inc.; and he landed 160 jabs to 45 for the challenger. "Comment

How many of those were power punches?? What's the comparison with his jabs/power punches??

Whether its a power punch or a jab doesn't matter, what matters is how effective it is.
A jab can be a very effective weapon. Whitaker, just like Mayweather, shut DLH down with it.
So yea, Benn, before you start talking out of your ass, look at the actual figures.Comment

Well to be fair you score a fight round by round not off of just compubox and even then its a close fight...I could understand ppl scoring it for Oscar or Pernell...
Same as Mayweather-Castillo 1 being close and ppl pointing to the compubox saying Castillo was robbed...Comment

In fact, in most cases, I rarely use them.
But in this case, dude is saying Pea wasn't aggresive, but Oscar was?
How is one more aggressive by throwing less punches is what I'm basically getting at.Comment

You don't need to be a Pernell nuthugger to believe that the decision was grossly inaccurate and ridiculous. You just have to be a boxing fan.
Are you calling out Pernell or his nuthuggers on this thread? Is this a hate thread or a debate thread. Don't call people nuthuggers just because they disagreed with your statements because your thread just lacks credibility. Why don't you just rename the thread - I hate Whitaker and his nuthuggers.Comment

Pea threw more and landed more.

So yea, Benn, before you start talking out of your ass, look at the actual figures.
By your figures, Pernell landed 232 - 160 = 72 power punches to DLH's
191 - 45 = 146.
So Pea landed about 20% more total punches, but Oscar landed more than double the power punches. Depends on your preference. If you, like you say, think a jab equals a left hook, then Pea won the fight. Most think otherwise.Comment
