I gave DLH the fight last time I watched it but neither guy did much to put their imprint on the fight.
I like Pernell, but he didn't do **** against Oscar

To this day, I've never seen a fighter run like Hoya did against Trinidad. It didn't make sense at the time. I was like Trinidad is the other way. Its like he really turned his back and ran away.Comment

Pernell outlanded Hoya 3-2 and he didn't run nearly as much as De la did.

This was terribly boring low contact fight to watch and no one can say with conviction that either guy won clearly, what i will say is neither deserved to lose because they neither did enough to beat the other guy.Comment

Pernell clearly won the fight. The only reason Oscar got the nod is because he was the draw and younger fighter. If Oscar never had a draw power, he would have also lost against Sturm and IkeComment

Or maybe he just isn't your cup of tea? I hate people who discredit fighters just because they don't like them personally.

Win or lose, you can make a case for either fighter, it was a learning experience for Oscar.
I think all fighters that don't come from America should train for fighters who wan't to play a game of "female tag"
A lot of these American fighters will turn a fight into a game of "I touch you." And that will be it. They'll use their ability to tag and run to their advantage. If fighters not from this country add that type of fight motivation to their training preparation, it would help them 10 fold.
And the only way to beat a guy in a fight who doesn't want to fight, is to not fight yourself. Train to touch him before he touches you, train to run away, before he runs from you. Save the brawling style or men that want to brawl. Save the power shots for guys who will actually have the nerve to fight. Etc etc....
There's a ridiculous perception that Mexican fighters can't box and run, because they simply won't. Well when Roger Mayweather's toothless moronic self was rackin up wins against bums, they called him a "Mexican Assassin." But once he got in the ring with a Mexican who could actually fight, lol that dumb toothless hillbilly, got laid the **** out. Chavez took it to him in a brawling fashion, and you got fighters like Oscar/Bojado/Marquez who started out as fighters who would tarnish you, but they each had fast enough hands to tag and run against the runners as well.
When fighting a boring fighter, lol you can't be afraid to make it a boring fight. Simple as that. The fans are meaningless ultimately, so ignore them. A fighter needs to center only himself and his purpose. The moment he tries to bring outsiders into his fight-realm he's already sacrificed a portent of his fight game. Your opponent, (clown or threat), and yourself should be the only things on-mind.
Clowns basically get the rare ability to cry, complain, and run their lame ass mouths, when you fight the exact fight they expect you to fight. But when you prepare and fight their fight (touch and move), those same clowns will have nothing.
But don't bank on the chances of a fighter actually stepping it up against the real heavy hitters. In boxing today, lol you gotta pray for a fight that serious to take place below 147.Last edited by MaYaN_SuN; 08-29-2009, 10:08 AM.Comment

As for this fight, lol when Oscar would utilize an under appreciated part of his game which were his reflexes, when he would use them and make Whitaker miss....lol you could tell Pernell was gettin pissed, because that was HIS GAME. Oscar was utilizing it without even knowing it, I think. Oscar just wanted to fight for the most part, not knowing he could make Pernel miss if he was smart enough to make Whitaker feel like he had to come in and fight..Last edited by MaYaN_SuN; 08-29-2009, 09:47 AM.Comment
