You are however correct about this fight taking place at Pavlik's most effective weight class. I just kind of scratch my head about why Williams turned his nose up at the first offer to fight Pavlik at the time he was undefeated. But the Winky Wright victory helped raise Paul's clout in the negotiation process of the fight with Pavlik.
Pac gets praised for beating Oscar and Hatton....after Floyd alreay beat them/

Bob Arum deaded the fight with Pavlik the first time and that's
why this time he wasn't involved.

I have admit that I have never seen Paul Williams fight and know nothing about him. But, when I heard all the hype I figured he was the second coming of Henry Armstrong so I got a little curious and looked at his record and I have to ask. Who has he fought?

It seems that many of the so called experts believe that Paul either lost or his fight with Old Plaster fist was a draw. Paul then loses to a fighter that is now ranked 14th in the world and I have to wonder was the guy even rated before he fought Paul? But to his credit Paul did avenge that lose. And then there are Winky Wright and Verno Phillips. Paul beat Verno on his 39th birthday and the man has been fighting in the pro ranks since Paul was seven years old. Then there is Mr.Wright. Winky had not fought in almost two years, a long lay off for anyone let alone a 37 year old, and he was even coming off a lose. And just in case anyone cares Winky first fought in the pro ranks when Paul was in the 3rd grade. Like I said I have not seen Paul fight but I am hardly impressed with his record and it sure seems to me that Pavlik has surely fought the better competition.

I am glad that Arum wasn't involved too. Dave Rado is a good poster, but he was questioning me about that. Todd Debouf and Cameron Dunkin were the ones that made this fight a possibility on Top Rank's part, not Arum. I agree that Arum totally pulled the plug on the proposal last year. But Williams was still being difficult in the negotiations like he was in this one. But I can't be mad at him for that because it got homeboy more scrilla scratch.

Exactly!! That's what I'm saying. Kelly Pavlik has only 1 loss
in a higher weight class AND Williams is fighting him for the
Middle Weight titles at his best weight? How could that be
a lesser win for him? If anything people can say that Hopkins
didn't get the best Pavlik because it was a weight class he has
never fought in. For people to give credit to Pac for beating
Oscar and Hatton after Floyd when Floyd fought them at there
best is bias ANd to say that Williams beating Pavlik at his best
for the titles would be lesser because Hopkins beat him first
in unfamiliar territory for NO title would be Bull****. Williams
              should get FULL CREDIT.
