wasn't at their best when they fought Pac BUT Pac still gets full credit
for beating two fighters that were already beaten by another prior
SO Williams should get FULL CREDIT because this fight with Kelly
Pavlik would be at his best weight. Can't really give credit half
way because credit is credit.
If Williams beats Pavlik as devastatingly as Pac beat Hatton, he'll get a huge amount of credit from everyone (other than really extreme haters), regardless of the fact that Pavlik has already been beaten badly by Hopkins. But Pac would have had been given even more credit than he was for his win over Hatton if there had not already been question marks over Hatton due to his performances against not only Floyd but also Lazcano, where his punch resistance seemed to be going. And Williams would be given even more credit by most people had he beaten an unbeaten fighter who was being compared at the time by some people in P4P terms with Foreman in terms of punching power than he will be given now. But a lot depends on the nature of the win, and how dominating it is.
The fact that he beat Winky in such a one-sided fashion, even though Winky didn't fight badly at all, and didn't look at all rusty, is what impressed everyone so much about that win, not the fact he won as such.Last edited by Dave Rado; 08-13-2009, 09:51 AM.

It's going to be very interesting, to me, if Paul can pull out a victory- which I'm not convinced he has the size to do. Now, I'll be the first to admit that Williams is no Hopkins- nobody is Bernard other than Bernard- but with the really sound beating Pavlik took in that fight, well, the gameplan to beat him is there. Whether or not anyone can replicate it, I can't say- especially because Bernard had size on his side- but I don't see Kelly ever making the type of adjustments that a similiar gameplan wouldn't beat him a second time.
Paul has been bouncing around from 147-160, and I just don't know where he belongs. Does he have the size to take on middleweights? Height is one thing, Paul never fills out much. Even if he drains a bit to get to welterweight, he might be more comfortable with those men than he is with Kelly.
Should Paul beat Pavlik, though, I'd be a bit happy because the days of him not getting fights will be forever over. He'd be the middleweight champion of the world and, like it or not, people are going to sign on the dotted line to try and take what he's got. Men at 160 will be much quicker to step up against Williams than the welterweight boys were; so we'd really find out what Paul's made of in the coming years.
I've always seen Kelly Pavlik as a solid, decent boxer with some good pop, but one who is thoroughly beatable. I'm just not sure if Paul can hang with Kelly, though.

lay out a natural middle weight, PLUS he's a big guy so it should be
good for him to fight at higher weights do to his size. So in actuality
he may be able to hang with Pavlik with no problems.

I was a little surprised how many times Hopkins was able to stun him though. The Executioner isn't much of a one-punch guy.

But I agree B-Hop doesnt pack that great power.
Still he doenst have a china chin, it might not be granite, but definetly not china!!
And Williams doesnt pack great power either!
Originally posted by street bully View PostHopkins can crack. He just isn't a one punch guy, but Hopkins usually stuns his opponents a few times in all of his fights. He would have had a lot more KOs if he let his hands go late in his career.
Originally posted by buckdacious View PostPeterson is right though, its not like you need a gameplan for Pavilk. hes gonna come foward, eat punches, and throw aot of punches, thats it. AND THE NEW....

Williams got rock a couple times when he fought at welterweight, I am pretty sure that wasn't healthy comparing how tall he is. On this fight he is coming in at a healthy weight, so I will see Will dominating Pavlik easy in the later rounds.

He wasn't in a position to make an offer if the fight was to be held in the US, because it is Arum who has the relationship with the US networks and venues, not Abraham's promoter - it was for Arum to make an offer to Abraham if the fight was to be held in Pavlik's back yard. And he refused to do so.
The issue is not their résumés but the fact that Abraham and his promoter tried seriously to make the fight happen for over a year, and Arum blocked it and made it clear in many interviews that he wanted Pavlik to fight the Diddy Doddy Duddys of the world rather than anyone who might pose any risk. To be fair to him, Pavlik himself probably did want it to happen, but he could, and should, have told Arum to stop the bull**** and just make it happen - which he seems to have done with the Williams fight. Abraham wanted the fight to happen, Arum didn't, that's the bottom line.
