then why in the middle of the ring could tarver barely do **** to roy... but when roy would go on the ropes and put his hands up cuz he was too tired to move, this was the only time tarver could put any work in...

the only time tarver could do anything to roy is when he was on the ropes covering up.. and that was IT.

it was the first time you saw roy tired, and he was tired by round 4-5

You guys seem to forget that Jones was notorious for always only fighting "Journeyman" fighters. Roy didn't really start fighting big time opponents until after the knockouts. At that point he had no choice, and the big names he did fight were all way past their primes. Jones always put on a spectacular show, but look who it was against. Tarver's resume is stronger.

I tend to agree with some of what you wrote but for different reasons. Tarver - like Montell Griffin - was a very patient counterpuncher. Except Tarver packed a huge punch. I'm not sure what you're referring to with regards to Tarver not doing much in the middle of the ring - he didn't have to. He knew Jones had no choice but to go to the ropes because Jones is a counterpuncher himself. And Roy simply could not out-patience him in the middle of the ring. In the first Griffin fight, Jones went to the ropes a lot...why? It was the only place he could get countering opportunities.

roy was doing fine in the middle of the ring.. especially with the jab feint and right hand to the body... he landed the right hand to the body over and over and over while he had the stamina to do it... when roy kept the fight in the middle of the ring, he outboxed tarver like crazy

I wouldn't say he outboxed Tarver like crazy -about the only punch he could land was the right to the body. Jones didn't win his rounds THAT convincingly. Tarver threw a pretty good jab himself and kept Jones at the end of it.

Jones has always gone to the ropes. Always, especially since moving to 175. But he used to use it as a tactic to create countering opportunities. Tarver simply never gave him that chance. He would maneuver him there, go to work and then step back before Jones could respond. Repeat x2. Worked very, very well.

Nah it was completely different... Roy never "looked" tired when going to the ropes before it was always a ok come and get me approach... in the tarver fight he was obviously tired, his mouth was open, he looked very fatigued.. it was for a completely different reason.. maybe u should watch the fight again, i just watched it again last night... im telling u, in the center of the ring, roy dictated the boxing.. maybe he didnt land 6 punch combos, but he threw more than tarver, and landed more in the center of the ring

Was he tired against Montell Griffin the first time? Because Griffin used the same tactic and it worked.
