any body else think that pacs "former 108lb'er" tagline is overrated?

How many losses did Pacquiao have in the amateurs... plus, when Floyd was 16 fighting at 108 in the Olympics I can easily say that he was fighting harder opponents than Pacquiao was, headgear or no headgear.

Yeah it takes balls to do it and I give him credit for coming back from it and winning a title... but what the TS is saying is... most people within his size category (e.g Floyd) could make 108 at his age.

Either way though, he shown heart and dedication to come back from it and I do give him credit for that, 100%!

In the united states you CANT turn pro that young. Consider this, Cotto and Calderon fought each other in the amatuers, so did martin castillo and mayweather.
Maybe they've changed the rule since, but in 1990 Clarence "Bones" Adams turned pro at the age of 16. Don't hear about to many others though.

Call him a LW if you want, but yea, the former 108 lber thing is old. It's relevant to his overall career, but not in the context of his current fights, which is how it often gets used.

floyd was fighting much harder opposition in the amateurs than pac was in the pros. your acting like pac was fighting elite professional fighters or some ****, if you dont know, there are tons of registered professional fighters that are BUMS. and if you look into all of the elites of the sport that have an amateur career, they all lost fights, its the ****ing amateurs yo.

how the hell did you come up to that scientific conclusion? This thread is hilarious. Trying to discredit Pacquiao for turning 16 professionally as a 108 pounder while living in the streets trying to support himself.

"well if he was in america he wouldnt have turned pro, or if floyd & oscar could turn pro they would."

Have you lost your marbles? The fact is they didnt & manny did. What if 50 cent grew up in the suburbs? would he be rapper? what if bill gates grew up in darfur sudan? would he be a billionaire?

              ****ing Ridiculous.

You cant discredit a certain fighters background & circumstances with opposite hypothetical situations to try to downplay what he achieved just like you cant credit fighters in your avatar with hypothetical situations they never had to go through.

                The absurdity is astounding.

While its an incredible accomplishment, there is a reason as to why it happened like that. If pac could have had an amatuer background with proper seasoning, he would have definately went that path if he had the option. But the facilities in the phillipines dont have that standard because its a poor country, so i understand why he had to do it this way, i commend it, but its not all of what it seems.
Yeah but Miguel was like 13/14 and Calderon was 18 and it was at 106

but if your really think about it, he was what? 16/17 years old, like 5 feet tall, and poor and hungry as hell in a country that doesent have much to offer, but offers fighters to be able to turn pro at age 16 to make a living. so in a way, there are alot of former 108lb'ers out there that at one point in their teens could make 108. shoot, i think mayweather could make 108 when he was 16.

Wasn't he a flyweight only 10 years ago? Think about that for a moment.
