  • any body else think that pacs "former 108lb'er" tagline is overrated?

alot of people say this when referring to pac, whether to add greatness to him or to insult a bigger opponent.

but if your really think about it, he was what? 16/17 years old, like 5 feet tall, and poor and hungry as hell in a country that doesent have much to offer, but offers fighters to be able to turn pro at age 16 to make a living. so in a way, there are alot of former 108lb'ers out there that at one point in their teens could make 108. shoot, i think mayweather could make 108 when he was 16.

floyd used to be that little but he was fighting with headgears on. it takes balls to be a professional fighter at such an early age, take a beat down, get back up, and become world champion

Yeah of course. When they mention that then someone mentions him losing when he was a teen they say he was too young. Well stop mentioning that he fought at 108. Most fighters are that light when they are at that age im sure jmm and floyd were around that weight. I remember cotto saying he fought calderon as a amt

Yes. Many 135lb/130lb/147lbers also started that way in the amatuers.

Some people even have the nerve to say "manny had the balls to turn pro at 16 unlike those amatuers"

In the united states you CANT turn pro that young. Consider this, Cotto and Calderon fought each other in the amatuers, so did martin castillo and mayweather.

While its an incredible accomplishment, there is a reason as to why it happened like that. If pac could have had an amatuer background with proper seasoning, he would have definately went that path if he had the option. But the facilities in the phillipines dont have that standard because its a poor country, so i understand why he had to do it this way, i commend it, but its not all of what it seems.

This... ^^ Pac paid his dues and came back stronger and hungrier.. He had no amatuer background, no time to hone his skills in the amatuer and was fighting adults.. sure some have done this but very few turned out to be as great as Pac..

                  who cares if it's overrated?

                  it's the damn truth.

                  it's a fact.

take it for what it's worth.

let's be serious, miguel cotto has no business losing to a guy that used to fight professionally at 108 lbs.

cotto has no business losing to anyone under 147 lbs PERIOD.
