With the current shape of Toney, I'll agree that Calzaghe has the edge coz Toney is slow and easily gasses. But in his prime at 160, believe me, he's hard to hit and he is pretty fast..
Greater fighter Toney or Calzaghe?

Do you think Joe didn't look right against Hopkins because of age or just a bad night? Could it have been Hopkins? Speaking of Bernard, he didn't look so hot himself. Could we attribute that to age as well? He's many more boxing years older than Joe.if we are going to be talking about a bout between the two then you have to have them facing off in their primes.
the joe that faced b-hop was was past his prime, and didn't look right. he had a few lbs of fat on him and imo that slowed him down, joe vs RJJ looked like he had grown into the 175lb frame.
trust me man, calzaghe will give toney everything he can handle with his speed and volume of punches. i respect toney in fact i think he has the best ring IQ of any fighter iv seen, and i disagree with boxasmash that hopkins has a better defence. imo hopkins defence is based around spoiling, toneys is about countering and finding opportunities to land his own.
Toney at his best beats Calzaghe, prime for prime. I don't think he knocks him out but I suspect he'd floor him a couple times. A prime Toney was extremely active as well, had great defense, amazing skills on the inside, good counterpunches and was very fluid in the ring. He was considered by many to be the world's best fighter. And his quality of opposition backed it up. He's rightfully the greater fighter because he beat names like McCallum, Nunn, Jirov and others while winning titles in three divisions, almost four.Comment

fighting nobodies and old black men really doesn't count sorry. James Toney, Joe C is a fraud.Comment

toney would go thru joes resume undefeatd too. and he wouldve KOd lacy kessler and no doubt jones (at that stage). he wouldve beaten hopkins. not just got the decision but acctually earned it.
nunn, mccallum and jirov would all beat calzaghe rather easily. and i wouldnt be surprised if reggie johnson and montell griffin did it too.Comment

I don't think Montell Griffin would've beat Calzaghe, he would've been absolutely overwhelmed. But a prime Reggie Johnson - who dropped Toney and fought him to a split decision and beat Steve Collins - versus Calzaghe would've been quite a battle.toney would go thru joes resume undefeatd too. and he wouldve KOd lacy kessler and no doubt jones (at that stage). he wouldve beaten hopkins. not just got the decision but acctually earned it.

As a Brit I had the unfortunate pleasure of following Calzaghes painstaking career of euro trash victories, Toney for me evryday much more slick boxer, a hilarious character.
Joe blatantly lost to Robin Reid beat a ruined Eubank scared silly by what he did to Micheal Watson then fought nobodies like Tocker Pudwell and Peter Manfredo.
Lost imo to an old man in Bernard (Joe landed **** all) and I still say the Jones fight was a fix, Jones seemed to totally outbox Joe in rounds 1 and 2 then just stood in the corner and covered up.
Calzaghe ducked going to the U.S for years sat on the weakest version of the belt, blatantly was scared of Glenn Johnson yet he still gets called a great.
If I went to mt local homeless shelter and beat 40odd of them, would i be a great

I also heard that B-Hop was suffering some Thyroid problems too, which may explain why he seemed so sluggish in the last stage of the fight against FraudZaghe.
Can anyone confirm this, Im sure Roach was talking about it.Comment

I can't believe anyone besides Paul Thomas, the world's worst boxing judge, would be ****** enough to score Calzaghe-Reid as a win for Reid.
