Then can you imagine him whooping Barkely and then years later coming back from nowhere to make a run through Cruiserweight, take out a prime beast in Jirov, and then go up to HW and become a legit contender, and win a title (forget the steroid bull****, it was taken for an injury and toney would have beaten Ruiz's ass with one hand behind his back anyway)

No, Joe fought a past it Eubank for his first title. Made defences vs nobodies, solid pros but not the type of guys you fight to create a legacy. Then he beats an overrated lacy, beats Kessler who has fought no one besides a one dimensonal slugger in andrade and that joke Mundine, escapes with a thin decision vs a 43 year old Hopkins who would have won had he had the energy to mount a sustained offence, and then blitzes a shot Roy

Joe was talented and is a good fighter, but he took a ****** career path and doesnt deserve to be comapred to a guy like toney who put his balls on the line in every fight
i dont agree with what you're saying about joes career - watch eubank at CW vs carl thompson and then tell me if you see shot fighter, as for hopkins what annoys me is the double standard. hopkins is a good fighter even in his old age as he proved with his performance over pavlik and right now would beat the majority of LHW's (except for dawson).

anyways what im interested in is this - prime calzaghe vs prime toney at 168 who takes it.

you seem to acknowledge that joe is a good fighter, so id like to see who you see taking this fight.

i dunno whats more surprising, that this hasnt turned into a hate filled thread with insults going back and forth (there has actually been some decent arguments for both here without resorting to primary school insults)

or daggum is being confussed for a calzaghe fan and is being taken seriously

jones schooled toney and calzaghe schooled jones.

don't think we need anymore evidence. case closed.
toney has a far better resume and he has had nearly double the amount of fights joe has plus calzaghe likd a cherrypick if u ask me

best post in the history of boxingscene. really right on the money in every aspect.

joe hasnt taken enough risks to be considered a great fighter. nobody can deny his talent, but his resume just doesnt hold up. look at toneys record, it has a few losses but thats what happens when u fight the best repetedly. toney has achieved more, and is better as far as ability goes aswell.

if they fought prime for prime toney knocks him out no question about it. joe makes too many mistakes and toney is a excellent counterpuncher. u might get away with those mistakes against old men whos reflexes are shot, one dimensional sluggers and overrated, unproven, average danes. but a true ATG in his prime wouldnt allow it.

calzaghe was good, toney was great.

If Joe cant land punches cleanly on old Bhop, how much more if its prime Toney? People are forgetting that Toney has one of the best defense of the game. He can make look like an Amateur.

Toney is a fat **** who cant speak english. I need either subtitles or a fat yank to translate what that burger muching obese man is saying. Joe wins hands down @ 168.

Hopkins has a better defence than Toney, even then Toney wouldn't grapple with Calzaghe like Hopkins did to try keep him off.

                  Poor example.

if we are going to be talking about a bout between the two then you have to have them facing off in their primes.

the joe that faced b-hop was was past his prime, and didn't look right. he had a few lbs of fat on him and imo that slowed him down, joe vs RJJ looked like he had grown into the 175lb frame.

trust me man, calzaghe will give toney everything he can handle with his speed and volume of punches. i respect toney in fact i think he has the best ring IQ of any fighter iv seen, and i disagree with boxasmash that hopkins has a better defence. imo hopkins defence is based around spoiling, toneys is about countering and finding opportunities to land his own.

acctually toneys defense is better than BHops.

and thats prime for prime. calzaghe didnt fight BHop in his prime he fought him when his reflexes were shot to ****. and he still didnt land **** until the 44 year old started gassing.

calzaghe doesnt lay a hand on toney at 168, toney controls him, sets him up and catches him coming in. wins by brutal KO.
