Pacquiao-Cotto Title Bout Rests on WBO's Section 15

If Cotto pays the 150,000 WBO sanctioning fee, and not put the title on the line, the WBO earns.
If Cotto drops the title, and wins the fight, the WBO will end up win no money and a vacant title.
I suggest Pacquiao not sign unless specifically stated in the contract that the title is on the line or fight at 147 for the title, or cancel the fight altogether. He should not leave himself under the mercy of sanctioning bodies, not make this world mega event just an exhibition fight.
I must add that if Cotto vacates the title the fight will not have the title on the line even if Pacman wins, because in case of the of a vacant title the # 1 rank fighter (in this case Pacman) will have to fight the # 2 rank fighter (currently being Joshua Clottey).Last edited by prsi; 08-08-2009, 08:26 PM.Comment

The way I see the fight is 2 million dolars away from being made if both fighters stick to their demands and words, and i'll explain you why.
Cotto has agreed to fight for the title if he's not limited to 145 and he will pay his fee.
Pacquiao also said he would pay his fee to challenge Cotto for the belt but as per the initiall agreement there will be a clause that says that for every pound that Cotto comes over the 145 weight limit agreed (with no title mentioned at that moment) he will have to pay 1 million dolars therefore if he comes at 147 he will have to pay 2 million dolars.
Arum can probably sign a contract with Cotto that he will pay the 2 million dolars to Pacquaio if he agrees to put the belt on the line and come at 147.
This will practically please Cotto's demand indirectly by fighting for the WW title with no restrictions and will also be within the restritions of weight established by Pacquiao on the initial agreement.
Everybody will get what they want, but Arum will have to invest a little more (2 million)Last edited by prsi; 08-08-2009, 08:49 PM.Comment

Yes but in that case it will be against Joshua Clottey which is the #2 contender of the WBO WWComment

Valcarcel has already mentioned that possiblity. Follow the logic: If Cotto vacates the fight would be #1 vs #2. But, because Cotto is not willing to pay the sanctioning fees he would not be able to actually win the belt. Since Pac has already stated that he will pay the fees he would win the title should he defeat Cotto. Remember that the fees are not payed up front. The same thing happened with Baldomir. He won all the titles but since he did not pay all the sanctioning fees he did not keep all of them. Confusing but simple man.Comment
