  • Pacquiao-Cotto Title Bout Rests on WBO's Section 15

A lot has been written on the title mishap that hangs like a bad cloud above the November 14 bout between Manny Pacquiao and WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto. The fight takes place at an agreed catch-weight 145-pounds and because of this weight, Cotto has not been willing to stake his welterweight crown. He says Pacquaio will have to fight him at the full welterweight limit of 147 to have the title at stake. The WBO president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel is pushing to have the WBO title on the line. Who could blame him? There is a $150,000 sanctioning fee at stake on both sides. Top Rank's Bob Arum promotes both fighters and is willing to pay both of their sanctioning fees. [details]

wow. so if pac wins, he gets the belt. if cotto wins, the title will be vacated. i really cant see any reason for miguel not to defend the title. if its about the $150k uncle bob is willing to pay it. this will be a title fight cause of this rule the wbo has

Sounds good to me. Cotto vacates and does not have to pay the sanctioning fees and sends his message. Pac can win that title (and the super duper diamond belt) should he win. If Cotto wins he will not need a belt to get what he wants in the next fight. Finally, Arum can promote the fights as an historic opportunity for Pac to win a title at a seventh division. Everybody is happy. I have been pushing for this compromise for a long time now. Anybody have a problem with this?

Wouldnt be surprised if this happened. As much as Pac could make fom this fight you know Pac vs PBF would proably do more than double and break all records.
