The Welterweight limit is 147lb. It is impossible to be within the limit. It's not a range, it's a limit.

Am I missing something? Roach wants to claim the title even though Cotto can't come in at 147? He has to make 145 but risk a 147 title? He seems like a nice guy but is seriously insulting Cotto's intelligence. If the WBO sanctions it I hope Cotto would come to weigh in at 147 then hire an attorney and sue them if he gets penalized in anyway. You shouldn't be able (and I bet you can't) "contract around" established regulation.

During the times of Henry Armstrong there were limited (original) weight divisions, wherein there were no junior or super weights. For instance, Lightweight would immediately precede Welterweight, then Middleweight. Do you know the actual limits during those times you specified?

A: YES

Q: is 145 lbs. a welterweight?
A: YES - and anyone who says NO lacks something.

Q: is there a rule that you have to weigh 147 max to defend a ww title?
A: NO - And Cotto even defended it recently weighing only 146 officially.

Q: do contracting parties set up official weights for a fight?
A: NO - And 141 to 147 is the official welterweight LIMIT or boundaries regardless of being a title fight or not.

All these controversies all boils down to money.
