Kelly Pavlik-Paul Williams Hits a Serious Roadblock

Top Rank is actually right on this. Why in the hell would the gate be split in half when Williams has a very small following and Pavlik has a decent following? I think Paul should take this fight and be happy with the 1+ million dollar payday.

Exactly plus anybody would kill for a championship bout. Goosen is a ***en joke pwill needs to leave his ass, pwill has been in here too long to still be in the position he is in, in boxing. Goosen has done more harm than good to pwill's career. Split the ***en gate? Doesn't matter, these guys are doing business and if I
represented a fighter I would want my fighter to get some
of the money on everything as well even if it's not half but
of course I'm going to want to make something off of the
gate and sponsorship. The Sponsor will be Sponsoring the
fight as a whole not just a one man fight! When they make
them banners up their doing because it is a Pavlik/Williams
fight and when people come to see the fight their coming to
see Pavlik/Williams! PLUS the fight ain't going to be in Youngstown
Ohio where Pavlik is a favorite it's going to be in Atlantic city.
They should reap in all the benefits IF NOT pay Williams more
than $1.55M out of that $3.75M BOTTOM LINE.

You're not looking at it from the other point of view. Why should Williams get any money from the sponsor and gate when his fight with Winky Wright bombed where that is concerned? They had to hand out tickets to the Las Vegas Firefighters and Cops. Pavlik and Arum are in the right here. Williams better fight that Ukranian guy if he isn't going to fight Pavlik, or else I don't want to hear about him being ducked anymore. I'm disappointed in the guy to be honest. Here I was beating the drum for his cause to get a big fight and he goes off and pulls this ****. F[I]u[I]ck him.

I remember when James Kirkland expressed interest in fighting him and he blew that challenge off. I can understand not fighting Clottey despite what a lot of these other posters say, but the hardcore fans of Paul Williams (which I was close to becoming) have no leg to stand on here. And yeah, I do think that Shane Mosley and Miguel Cotto ducked Paul Williams in a flagrant way. But Williams should get in with someone like Pavlik and prove to us that he can stand in there with a strong Middleweight. Nate Campell, Glen Johnson and even Bernard Hopkins (somewhat now calling the winner out between Johnson and Dawson) fight for pride and money and they are the last of a dying breed. Williams has shown me that he is no different than 90% of these other fighters that reach the mountain top and he fights just for the green (like your boy Floyd does). I read an interview with George Peterson over on ESB and he said that he only wanted Paul Williams to fight one more time for the rest of the year. The guy is letting me down.

Paul dont deserve a piece of the gate cuz he wont sell any tickets. 1.5 million is a good pay for paul, its probably his biggest payday so stop being greedy and fight. stop ducking pavlik.

Tell me about it! When Floyd sicks his business on fighters, people
say he is scared and ducking but when Pavlik does it then Williams
should shut up and take the fight. Same I read for Mosley. I honestly
feel that the fight should be made but why would Williams people just
settle for not getting a piece of the gate and Sponsorship right out
the gate? See what you can get your fighter. I have a feeling that
HBO is going to pressure them to put this fight on and if Arum/Goosen/
Haymon don't make it happen off this BS, guarantee they mess up
future opportunities with HBO considering that HBO is offering this
kind of $ in a bad economy with not that big of a budget. Arum and
Goosen should come to an arrangement.

Another thing too. I remember when Margarito got all this **** from boxing fans for not getting in the ring with Paul Williams again and I don't have a problem with one bit of the venom he got from some people because he had a career-high payday staring him in the face to avenge his loss and he bitched out. But people need to hold Williams to the same standards when it comes to not capitalizing on big opportunities at his feet. In fact, I think it was a ****** move on his part to not accept this fight last year. He may have been getting the same amount of money that he is now, but he isn't going to get as much credit for the victory now after what Hopkins did to Pavlik. This fight should've happened at the time Pavlik was undefeated. But Williams picked up a nice check to fight Winky Wright and that worked out pretty well for the short term. And I don't know if the Pavlik offer is in the same ball park as what he got in that fight. But that fight actually hurt his bargaining power for money demands because like I mentioned before, that fight did jack **** as far as spectators go.

winky that hadnt fought in 2 years and was coming off a loss not quite that signature win he needs to come into the mainstream. this pavlik fight is his best opportunity and the fact that goosen is playing games like this knowing that his guy is not the draw is just ****** and makes me think they are beginning to realize that he really isnt feared by pavlik and an ass kicking is coming there way

I'm not dis*****g the points being made but I would try to
get $ from everything too, instead of settling right out the gate.
Why take nothing, when you can potentially get a piece
of it all by holding out a lil? IF it was me and it's not, I would
take the $1.55 MIL and the opportunity BUT you have to
understand that the guys trying to negotiate this fight is
talking for Pavlik/Williams. I think this fight could be the
career boost Williams needs to reach the point where he
becomes a bigger name and IF his team can't come to an
arrangement then they will hurt his rep and name UNLESS
they have other plans for Paul. I agree that Williams doesn't
have the luxury to disregard fighters because he is still trying
to break out.

This is an easy fight for Paul Williams... you think Bernard Hopkins boxed his head off.. what is he going to do against Williams who can box AND match Pavliks work rate? The title is more important than the money.. when he beats Pavlik he will be the best fighter from 147-160. That will bring some real money. Easy money and belt for Williams.. forget the gate.
