Kelly Pavlik-Paul Williams Hits a Serious Roadblock

Top Rank is actually right on this. Why in the hell would the gate be split in half when Williams has a very small following and Pavlik has a decent following? I think Paul should take this fight and be happy with the 1+ million dollar payday.

Pavlik will sellout what on himself? Ok, so do that, don't count on Williams sticking around forever waiting though. I hope they make it happen. Pav resume is par with Williams imo so there's no reason this isn't split in half. Otherwise Kelly may very well have to fill that arena on himself.

Williams would help Pavlik do more but Pavlik can stand on his own, Williams cannot and except a really respectable gate. I was at the Locket fight and it was a legit crowd. The Rubio fight was also really respectable.. to be fair it was in his hometown but Williams can't just hold a fight in his hometown and do the same as Pavlik did. pwill needs pavlik more than pavlik needs paul. pavlik has no trouble getting fights b/c he's a middleweight champ, white, & with arguably the most powerful boxing promotional company.

pwill & goosen need to stop playing hardball. they are in no position to. take what u can get. the real prize is the belt & exposure of beating pavlik.

People will come see that fight because it is a Pavlik/Williams fight. I bet you if Pavlik was fighting Mora NO ONE would show, not even because of Pavlik. The fact that both of them will be in the ring together will generate interest.

I hear you but this is business and not everyone will be there
to see Pavlik. HBO has confidence in what both will do for
the network and will promote BOTH! & when you promote
that means interest builds for both fighters. Like I said,
even if it is not a down the middle split, Williams should
get something from the gate and sponsorship. It's not like
Williams is a up and comer, he just came off of an impressive
win against a seasoned Veteran. Give the guy some props
off of that alone.

Maybe they don't have to split it down the middle but
Williams should get a piece of the Gate and Sponsorship
because both fighters are making the fight. HBO is paying
for Pavlik/Williams not just Pavlik. HBO is putting up that
$ because of both fighters so they should both share
in all revenues whether or not it's down the middle.

That doesn't make any sense. Just because they're putting up money for The Fight and not the fighter, doesn't mean it should be 50/50.

Pavlik and Top Rank can walk now from the deal and The Ghost will still make more coin then The Punisher fighting on a Top Rank PPV.

P-will better compromise on this one or else.

I think that leverage only matters if you can exploit it. Pavlik/Arum both believe that Pavlik can draw, well that may be the case, but against whom? What other options does Pavlik have, especially when HBO already low balled his fight with Sturm. Pavlik and his team were waiting out Abraham until he couldn't make weight anymore. Pavlik will end up like Hopkins at middleweight with no other notable challenges.
