I think you guys are overlooking one major fact-Wlad's power. And the size advantage. Holmes was no Corrie Sanders.

Wlad's power isn't as much as Shavers and Holmes stood up to that ok.
Lets look at the size advantage which is obviously the be all and end all to boxing.
Wlad has what 3 inches and a stone on Holmes? Cooney was the same size as Wlad so Holmes won't exactly run for it when he sees Wlad.
Reach is the same, Holmes has the better jab so no easy pay day for Wlad there. There have been "big" heavyweights before you know, just they were in strong eras and didn't do very well.
Wlad's biggest weapon is the jab and his power right? Well Holmes has a better jab and has a great chin and ring craft. He won't being walking forward like that last guy and if he does get caught I believe he will absorb it.

That's just how you console yourself when someone's opinion differs, or is nuanced somewhat, from yours.

They disagreed with you, so they must be intellectually inferior or prejudiced in some way - this conceit makes you feel better about them not agreeing with you.

It's too much of a challenge to meet someone halfway, open your mind to actual debate and be prepared to have your own perspective not necessarily changed per se but broadened. And so you contrive a reason to declare their point of view worthless. It's the only way you can deal.


I didn't see him do anything more than express an opinion and attempt to support it based on his view of the nuances behind 2 fighters' win-loss statistics. There was stuff you could disagree with, sure, but nothing outrageous enough to engender the tone you took in response.
