To comapre a country the size of the U.S to Cuba, is compliment enough. Cubans want to make money just like everyone else and when these guys come into the pro's, they are already 26,27,28 years old and have hundredds of fights under their belts.

        Watch out for Cuba.
The communist government never gave their boxers a chance to go professional. The communist government of Cuba usually gives more emphasis with the country's glory rather than dabble with professional prizefighters.

Puerto Rican fighters have been trained for over a 100 years using professional boxing techniques. Cuba has been traning fighters using
amateur and olympic techniques. Big difference, I love our chances
against any fighter coming out of Cuba. I like Gamboa..
Exactly since Cubans are not moving on to be pro's they stick to techniques amateurs use to win. Huge difference.

I hate to break it to you, but Fidel isn't in charge anymore and the Castros have a lot of children to replace them, communism in Cuba will not be gone that easily, especially now that not even the US seem interested in the matter.

The reason why cubans are a powerhouse in amateur boxing its because it's all they do. They are grown men fighting mostly 16 to 20 year olds to them the amateurs are like pro boxing to us. Whenever they step up they have proven to be good but not great and also if communism dies in Cuba o will the whole boxing program.

Nah.. you guys are forgetting that most Cuban amateur stars start winning olympics at 20... People like to say they are 30 year old grown men beating little babies but a lot of times it's the other way around... you have that 19-21 year old cuban who comes out of nowhere (the juniors) and gets the gold medal. Of course, they keep him afterward to break records and all, therefore other younger cuban boxers (sometimes better) aren't allowed to compete until the older ones retire.
