Judah was never the best welterweight, Baldomir beating Judah did not make him the best welterweight, so Floyd has at no point beaten the best welterweight. He has never earned the right to be called the best welterweight.

I don't know how the lineal status truly works in situations when boxers retire and come back. As far as Floyd and championships go I know the WBC made him the 147 and 154 champion emeritus just like Vitali was when he retired. From what I understand that means Floyd can come back and challenge the current belt holders in those weights without having to climb the ranks to establish that sanctioning bodies undisputed champion. V Klit got his shot at Sam Peter for the belt right away because he was given that status when he retired.

Was Floyd given the emeritus status by WBC? I thought they accepted that he was retired?

Yeah they gave him the status at 154 right away. I believe the status at 147 was a bit later if i'm not mistaken.

Just goes to show what utter horse**** these sanctioning bodies can be. Someone needs to ask them how they made DLH-Mayorga a title bout when neither had done jack **** at that weight.

True. They almost let Vitali jump in front of Sam Peter foe a tiitle shot after they made Peter fight two elimination bouts for a title shot. They had to take that to court. I like Vitali but at the time it didn't seem fair what they were doing and Vatali ended up beating Peter badly anyways. I think they pick and chose who they give the status to based on how much money that fighter can bring compared to his peers.

Just thought i'd clarify this up. So although Mosley is the no1 at 147 at the moment, he'd have to beat Floyd to get the lineal crown.
Floyd made a point of publicly vacating the title so, no, he's not the champ. However, there is historical precedent to say whoever beats him at Welterweight has strongest claim (see: Holmes-Ali, Johnson-Jeffries, Louis-Charles).

He still holds the lineage regardless of whether he retired. This is the rules hence, Mosley or Cotto would have to beat him to claim the lineal crown.

Its like had Lewis come back from retirement, he would still be recognized as the lineal heavyweight champ. Because he never lost it whilst fighting.

                    These are the rules.
He lost it when he retired witch he didn't in fact fought the top level in that weight class. When he came back he lost it more for again not fighting any top guy so to me Floyd retired as the best Jr. WW and challenge a Top future Jr. WW that's a bout it in a higher weight class.
