a fighters prime has everything to do with his age. you dont see a prime fighter in their 40's now do you? barrera was just too much for little nasseem to handle. no excuses

naseem hamed peaked in 1996-1997 where he was at his absolute best, what followed was alot of dissapointing perroamnces against good opposition but dissapointing performances nonetheless
hamed i reckon was at his absolute best againts barrera. it was his biggest fight, he had to be in his best... we all know what happened next

the man just happened to be incredibly talented with freakish power which saved him through that period
    no argument there

if you know nothing about the style that hamed used then your not even justified in discussing this topic,he used a very unique style that was implemented by one gym and one trainer whom he departed with in 1998
    we all know

barerra ducked him for three years before stepping up,that's a fact,he was a coward with a weak chin
    barrera ducked nobody... fact

hamed otoh openly ducked marquez... fact

dont be too defensive, we all know hamed was a great boxer... just not the better one

I Know m8 i think half these dude's talking **** like this just saw the Barrera/Hammed highlights from youtube or something lol and didn't follow either career at all..

As for this age= prime stuff.. yes it can do also other factors can

Roy jones ****ed himself up from dropping **** loads of muscle to face Tarver and never was the same, that wasn't an age issue. I can list plenty more were people were out of there prime not due to age/getting old.

A prime, trained and focussed Naseem beats Barrera by quick KO.

But he didn't train, and had lost interest in the sport. If he'd still been interested and trained by Ingle he would've destroyed Barerra.

I'm assuming all the people in this thread who claim Barrera 'schooled' Hamed know the scorecards were 115-112/115-112/116/111 right? Hamed spent the last few rounds purely trying for a one punch KO, if he'd actually boxed the fight would have been very close, probably a SD.

              A schooling is Calzaghe/Lacy.

As for Hamed being prime in that fight, well anyone that says that knows nothing about his career. Prime in age maybe, prime in skills no. The fact that Barrera didn't want to know about fighting Hamed several years earlier tells you everything.

These polls are a waste of time TBH, if it was on a UK forum Hamed would be favoured, and on this forum if he had been American he'd be leading.

My opinion is that prime Hamed would have stopped Barrera, dropping him several times in the process.

A prime Barrera would inflict a worse beating on a prime Hamed.

Hamed can make all sorts of excuses, but the Barrera version he fought was supposed to be a sparring partner due to the war with Morales.

Instead, Barrera exposed Hamed for what he really is: he is a far lesser fighter than people make him out to be. One defeat was all it took for Hamed to show how weak he really is mentally when an opponent outsmarts him. Sort of sad because I loved watching him.

I actually wanted to write after reading your initial post that maybe the poll results will teach you something - so you can stop holding on to your absolutely ridiculous premise. I doubt it has though.

First off all im not a Naz fan as it may come across,
                      im a realist.
Look at naz when he fought the likes of Steve Robinson, Alicea, Medina etc.
Okay maybe they werent top fighters but were champions and contenders and he destroyed them,
everyone uses the fact that the divison was weak around the time naz was dominating and i dont think he will ever get the credit he deserves,
the naz that fought those guys would have destroyed barerra.
Barerra kept very quiet around this time as did junior jones and morales,
                      who Naz constantly called out.
Barerra aint a ****** bloke and i know he aint no ***** but maybe just like anyone else who followed Hameds career knew he would sharply go on the down after the fight with Mc Cullough when him and Ingle Split.
It amazes me how people like yourself and other posters on here cant even think about this,
I dont think you guys like him as do many other people and most of the posters on here who say barerra would whip him either way in the next breathe say "i was delighted barerra beat him."
