teddy was Briggs trainer from his debut until after the Wilson loss.he trained him fir his 1st 25 fights.after the is it rapping & acting or boxing question Briggs chose rapping & acting & he got his ass beat so teddy resigned.Briggs made all those negative comments when he was still young & had excuses for losing & gaining weight.he pointed his problems at teddy but really he needed to look in the mirror & see the real problem.secondly after Johnson & atlas split Johnson went from fighting at 230 to fighting at 260,moorer showed up in the Holyfield fight 20 pounds overweight & got killed.I remember after grant beat Gilbert martinez teddy told grant if you don't want to work harder he wouldn't train him anymore & guinn knocked him out.one last thing atlas told moorer he should retire(not training him then)because he said moorer still didn't commit himself to working hard, well moorer basically laughed at him & got knocked out in 20 seconds by tua! Teddy may be a hardass but he works just as hard as the boxer so anything less is unexceptable to teddy & there us nothing wrong with that.I've worked fir guys like that.you want to punch the guy for being an ******* but 10 years later you realize that he taught you more than you ever realized.teddy makes or breaks you.peter asked teddy to train him & he said no way.now peter weighs 270!
Klitschko vs Povetkin Not Likely For September

Sauerland begins with the same **** he did the last time. Sauerland wants the IBF Title but not the fight against Wlad.
He should stop lying.
Povetkin wants the tune up and Wlad will give him the time and fight Povetkin in Dezember. So no problem. But Wlad is also ready for September.Comment

Amateur record today doesn't mean as much as it did many years ago when Amateur fighters actually fought like Pro fighters. Today, it's more of a point sparring contest...which is also why you have even quality amateurs coming into the Pro ranks that have to adjust all over and cut out some bad habits.Povetkin's current trainer is considered the best in Europe, although he's getting very old. Let's not forget Povetkin has the all-time best amateur record at super heavyweight.
And you're right - although Povetkin is the best heavyweight after the Klitschkos, he's a perfect style match-up for Wlad and no trainer can prevent what's going to happen when he fights the champ. He will be stopped around the eighth round or so.
Sasha will charge in like he always does (I have videos of all his pro fights) but with Wlad he will get hit by harder punches than he ever has before and eventually he'll be stopped.
They need to go back to the old style of amateur fighting.
One of the best amateurs to come out of the Soviet System was Kostya Tszyu but even he had to adjust for the Pro fights...and then adjust again later on.
In addition: Povetkin's trainer may be the best in Europe but what does that same about Povetkin or is that a reflection of his trainer?
He might be a great amateur trainer but a Pro trainer requires further learning and experience. But like I said, maybe it is just Povetkin and not the trainer or vice-versa or both since a fighter usually reflects the trainer. We'll see.
Well I'm not so sure how much punishment he can take or if he has a chin. Brewster was able to get to Wlad's body in the first fight and he took shots from Wlad as well. But maybe Povetkin doesn't have the chin or toughness Brewster had...again, we'll see.Sasha will charge in like he always does (I have videos of all his pro fights) but with Wlad he will get hit by harder punches than he ever has before and eventually he'll be stopped
Teddy should be able to teach him how to get inside and take less damage as well as come up with a game-plan on how to get to Wlad.
Povetkin right now isn't beating Wlad so he needs a change. If Atlas can bring that change, so be it.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 07-14-2009, 12:17 AM.Comment

thank you joe. you know more about it than i do thanks!teddy was Briggs trainer from his debut until after the Wilson loss.he trained him fir his 1st 25 fights.after the is it rapping & acting or boxing question Briggs chose rapping & acting & he got his ass beat so teddy resigned.Briggs made all those negative comments when he was still young & had excuses for losing & gaining weight.he pointed his problems at teddy but really he needed to look in the mirror & see the real problem.secondly after Johnson & atlas split Johnson went from fighting at 230 to fighting at 260,moorer showed up in the Holyfield fight 20 pounds overweight & got killed.I remember after grant beat Gilbert martinez teddy told grant if you don't want to work harder he wouldn't train him anymore & guinn knocked him out.one last thing atlas told moorer he should retire(not training him then)because he said moorer still didn't commit himself to working hard, well moorer basically laughed at him & got knocked out in 20 seconds by tua! Povetkin is one tough dude with loads of experience if you count his kickboxing, his amateur and his pro rounds. Although in today’s boxing world amateur background does not mean what it used too, it is still the only way to go in the Eastern parts of the world. Over 130 amateur and 30 kickboxing fights have to mean something right? All those rounds in the ring had to test your whiskers and your stamina? I think every opponent for Wlad knows that standing and trying to outbox him is a very daring and most likely unsuccessful plan. Wlad does give that strange looking face when someone gets inside and he ties them up. That has got to be the key, but it’s easier said than done.
I think everyone here watched too many FNF and Teddys face and attitude makes the hating that much easier. He has to be at the very least a solid heavy trainer right? (not a big list to choose from) Like him or not he is pretty demanding and some guys just can’t take the heat. I do think it’s awesome that Teddy got tired of picking against the K brothers and got his ass up and wanted to do something about it. I bet his first call was to Christobal and Teddy asked him if he wanted to get in better shape and learn some D, but was told to call back after Chris was done eating
so Teddy called the next best thing. Any speculations who the tune up gonna be for Sasha? Or a better question is who should it be?

Mismatches
Klitschko vs Povetkin and Klitschko vs Haye, 2 easy wins for the brothers. Good fighters but the klits are borderline great fighters.

Exactly what I've been saying all along. It would've been Haye's best chance to do just that, but there's almost no doubt he would've been clacked by something hard on the way in - were he to have fought the Wlad who showed up against Chagaev.
I've seen a fair few Wlad fights recent and old, and that was without a doubt the most beastliest version of him I've seen so far. I don't care what the haters (or even his nadgerhuggers) say. His focus was dead-on, and he would've put the hurt on anyone that night.
Fixed.
Do you mean Povetkin or Dimitrenko? I assume you're talking about Povetkin here.
I actually think Haye has a much, much better against the VitMan than against Wlad. I'll even put bets on it when the fight is made, if anyone's up.Comment

You have it wrong - you're posting as if Sasha has been on a losing streak! Povetkin's WON all his pro fights so far, against better opposition than most in his short pro career. As usual, you are unfairly negative about Europeans. In addition: Povetkin's trainer may be the best in Europe but what does that say about Povetkin or is that a reflection of his trainer?

Povetkin is very good the way he is, but the unstable Teddy Atlas will ruin him, like he has many others like Grant and Johnson. Like yourself, Teddy doesn't like Europeans anyway - this is a bad mistake for Povetkin.Comment

So when I bash American fighters there is nothing wrong with that but if I downgrade a European fighter, there is something wrong with that? You have it wrong - you're posting as if Sasha has been on a losing streak! Ah...
Povetkin isn't "great" and not even close to it, yet. I'm not even sure he has greatness in him but may be able to get better. You saying he should stick with his regular trainer only is you saying he has reached his peak; he is a finished product.
He is already 29 years old and went through the amateur system so no telling how much more he can improve. There is an amateur and pro difference but sometimes fighters just can't adjust completely like they need to do.
Who did he beat so far? A washed up Chris Byrd?
He beat Chambers, I'll give you that, but I don't hold Chambers that high. But now I wonder, is that bashing an American fighter or is it ripping Povetkin's competition. As usual, I'm sure you will pick and choose how you want to see it.
And again, What's up with your hate towards Kostya Tszyu and how come you don't use him as an example of someone I like...or any other athletes and entertainers from Europe and the rest of the World?
You have some serious issues.
Did someone hurt you that bad in your life Tunney?
Atlas like Gatti and Gatti was from Italy. He also likes some other fighters from other countries so.....Last edited by Benny Leonard; 07-14-2009, 12:39 PM.Comment
