If you really want to tick off Shannon Briggs, mention Teddy Atlas's name. Just don't expect Briggs to make any direct references to his former trainer in reply.

"I don't want to give the guy any publicity because he gets enough,'' Briggs said when asked about Atlas, who resigned in disgust over Briggs's purported excuse-making following the dreadlocked heavyweight's third-round technical knockout by Darroll Wilson on March 15, 1996. I'll always be haunted by that situation.

"But you know what? That fight had to happen. I'm glad it happened. The Darroll Wilson fight turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I don't have anyone trying to control me anymore. I'm so happy to be free.''

I guess it wears on everybody.

Not a big fan of his act myself and if I were a boxer trained by him, I could see myself taking a shot at him eventually...especially with him continuing on about you after he has trained you (which should stay in-house).

Who do you think could train him?

To be honest though, I'm not sure how much it is going to matter going up against Wlad. His best shot is to maybe charge inside and pound the body and work his way up to the head. If he stands there and tries to box Wlad, he's a goner.

You don't know how lucky Wlad is.

Povetkin's current trainer is considered the best in Europe, although he's getting very old. Let's not forget Povetkin has the all-time best amateur record at super heavyweight.

And you're right - although Povetkin is the best heavyweight after the Klitschkos, he's a perfect style match-up for Wlad and no trainer can prevent what's going to happen when he fights the champ. He will be stopped around the eighth round or so.

Sasha will charge in like he always does (I have videos of all his pro fights) but with Wlad he will get hit by harder punches than he ever has before and eventually he'll be stopped.

most eastern europeans are used to aggresive trainers, frits zdunek told wlad to quit after he lost to brewster that is why they had the rift and split up, so Im sure teddy atlases ways for povetkin wont be anything new, its just teddys credentials as a trainer arent that good cause there isnt really any big succes stories of fighters that hes trained

I suggest you watch that clip, and unless Teddy Atlas has a twin somewhere it looks as if he was Briggs' trainer from the START of his career. This also doesn't do much for your credibility on the whole "boxer who trained with Briggs fairy tale".

I know he was Briggs trainer until after the Wilson loss.Briggs was making rap CDs & acting instead of dedicating himself to training.atlas asked him to devote more time to boxing & Briggs refused...he lost to Wilson so teddy resigned because of Briggs LACK of commitment.on Briggs last comeback before winning the title he came clean & said teddy was right & he said he DID lack commitment & said on national tv that if he'd had listened to teddy(who he said was a father figure to him)& worked harder things may have been different.after he won the title atlas was the first person he called to thank.watch Briggs vs okine interview after the fight(I own it).Briggs comes totally clean & says he pushed him very hard & he said he would have quit boxing but teddy talked him out of it.he even said he cried many times & there wasn't a day he didn't think about teddy & what he taught him.he admitted lack if commitment & that's all teddy wants is commitment.povetkin will give him commitment.Johnson, grant, moorer,Briggs all had the talent but never the commitment.notice how all those guys put on 20-30 pounds after they stopped working with teddy? Briggs was great for 1 second vs luakhivich other than that they all did nothing after.teddy is in great shape himself so your fitness level he expects to be on par with his.I think teddy is a great trainer.
