Carl Froch vs. Andre Dirrell

It's weird, because Froch should be a lot more entertaining than he really is... he's just so slow that it doesn't seem like he's doing a whole lot. I would be very worried if I were a Froch fan for this tournament, because it is alarming that Taylor was outboxing Froch like he was, because most people in the tournament are probably going to match up better than Taylor did against him (because they either have the chin, the will or the defense to stand up for all 12 rounds).
Anyway, sorry I jumped on you like that... I'm just used to all the Froch fans being really irritating and throwing in ****** little phrases about Froch being really, really good and how everyone else should watch out.
And thats my biggest worries about Froch in this tournament, If he fights someone that has fast hands and a big stamina then i would expect froch to loss by UD, the thing is i alway look at froch the same way i look at Margarito in the speed department and because they're soooooo slow they can be outbox by a better boxer but that has to be a boxer with a good stamina because both froch and margarito dont give up easily..Comment

Margarito has the gift of throwing over 1,000 punches in his fights. And thats my biggest worries about Froch in this tournament, If he fights someone that has fast hands and a big stamina then i would expect froch to loss by UD, the thing is i alway look at froch the same way i look at Margarito in the speed department and because they're soooooo slow they can be outbox by a better boxer but that has to be a boxer with a good stamina because both froch and margarito dont give up easily..
Froch throws an average number of punches, slowly... Bad combination.Comment

I can't see anyone having an easy time against Froch.
He's not the greatest technically but to beat him you're going to have to show some real heart, he is like a zombie in that ring. He eats punches, and comes on strong after all that.
He also has great stamina, he basically outlasted Pascal, and against Taylor he got punished for about 6 rounds and still had it all in the tank. When you get to he level of world-class, those guys are dangerous.
I really want to see Froch vs Bika one day, that would be hilarious.Comment

I voted for Froch.
I think that Dirrell is being overrated, IMO going from fighting journeymen to going to the other side of the world to fight in front of a hostile crowd will be a bigger challenge than he can handle. There are things that Dirrell is yet to show. Is he mentally strong? How is his chin? Stamina?
I don't think that Froch is neccessarily underrated, but it does sometimes seem as if guys who do not have world class skill are not given the credit they deserve, even when they are world class in other areas.Comment

Froch is like pre-Mayweather Ricky Hatton in that his will is unbelievable.I voted for Froch.

Froch is also just a good old fashioned hardman in the true sense of the word. Froch will never lose to anybody who isn't willing to come though some difficult moments, imo. So the young American guys, probably have question marks at this point.Comment

This is obviously a pick em fight. Froch looks vulnerable as he's slow and can go down. However he puts on pressure, packs a punch and has a very awkward style. Dirrell is faster than Taylor though, probably stronger as well and he's sloppy in a sense that he will not be cautious about Froch leaving his left hand low.
If Dirrell loses I think he might seriously hurt Froch or send him down before he does. This is not an easy fight for either manComment

If Taylor had survived the 12th round he would of won that fight. Froch has some upsides, a strong jab, very good power, a very good chin, but his defense is leaky as well. Because of his poor defense, a boxer who has good defense and can hit hard enough will pose a lot of problems for Froch like Kessler, Bute, or Dirrell. To be fair, Ali didn't do it by being a punch-bag for the first seven rounds, though. Even so, 'moronic' sums up much of the comment on that fight; Froch wore Taylor down, took over and got a well deserved TKO, even if he left it late. Taylor was BEATEN, far more so than Froch would have been if JT had sc****d an SD.
BTW, anyone who thinks Froch was 'lucky' should put a stop-watch on the time Taylor was down. Do anyone seriously think he could have made it up in a genuine 10?
As to the OP, who knows? Dirrell is still unproven, perhaps this fight might do so, or perhaps Froch will expose him. I'm just glad we get the chance to find out with the tourney going ahead.Last edited by Boxingwizard; 07-10-2009, 08:03 AM.Comment
