If I were Manny I would wait this year out, take sometime off
and get ready for Floyd. Manny has done enough to warrant
a chill from the sport. The way he trains, I don't see him having
problems getting back in the swings of things. I would watch
Cotto/Manny but it really doesn't make sense to him considering
that Mayweather is back in the loop. Cotto is more an Arum thing.
This scenario is like a friend wanting you to do a favor for him
that you really don't want to do but since he's your friend you
plan to do it anyway but it just doesn't sit with you 100% because
it's not totally in your best interest to do so.
The thing is that Manny is not the same fighter that he was when he fought JMM. He has tighter technique, uses both hands and as a consequence has become more confident being the aggressor and more likely to initiate contact. His counter-punching is still excellent but he has a much wider repertoire today. There is Manny then, and Manny now.
Than, in conjunction with the stylistic differences that fighting and succeeding at a higher weight necessitate, makes me believe that Mayweather would arguably be an easier opponent for Manny than Cotto. Not saying Cotto is more talented than Mayweather but styles do make fights.
Come on man, when has Mayweather EVER been an easy
opponent for anyone? Manny has improved but we didn't
really get to see how much because all of his opponents after
JMM have been too easy for him and he won them effortlessly.
Miguel Cotto gets hit by everything and discouraged as the fight
goes on if he is not controlling it. Manny can potentially be TOO
FAST for Miguel Cotto and accurate. The punch Manny landed
on Hatton's chin can be the same punch that drops Cotto. Floyd
defense and the fact that he gets more comfortable and stronger
as the fight goes on and he figures you out would be a bigger
factor in beating Manny instead of Cotto getting winded as the
fight goes on. Cotto gets hit cleanly in every fight but Floyd?
Come on man.....out of Cotto/Floyd/Mosley.....Cotto would be
the safest and easiest to beat.

Reason: Word correction.

First of all, when I said easier I believe it was pretty obvious I meant relatively easier. Neither of the three fighters you mentioned will be easy for Manny. They are all very, very difficult challenges. No matter how much you wish to reduce Cotto to just an Arum creation he has fought 5 of the current top 10 welterweights as ranked by The Ring and defeated 4 of them (im not even going to speculate on Margaritos loaded gloves) to PBF's majestic 1 (and all but one of them were there when he "retired" so that argument is a non-starter). Either way, I see your point and though I dont agree it is valid. We soon shall see. Cotto and Pac will happen. Thats the beaty of Cotto: Boxing fans can actually look forward to settling these kinds of debates.
Roach is smart. He does not want to give Cotto any rest or time for his cut to heal. That's why roach wants 142-144 and hates that it's 145+ Me? i'm glad it's 145 and not 146/147. I feel cotto is more of an animal at 145 or less.
Exactly how I saw this, but people are reading way too much into this item and Boxing Scene feels like they need to have every measly detail from the negotiations or rumors posted as a valid article just to have something on the fight front-page every day.
Fighters make other fighters go up or down in weight all the time. DLH made FMJ, FMJ making JMM and Joe Louis made Billy Conn. Its a part of boxing. The only 'catchweight' fight is PAC vs Cotto if PAC signs the contract. He is complaining of stomach ulcers (might be an excuse to pull out of the fight)..
To be honest with you, I normally beat guys with my C game and I don’t have to pull my A or B game out .
You have to realize that most of these guys get in there and fight on heart. I fight with smarts. There is no fighter that is smarter than me. Most of these fighters are ABC, 1-2-3. I am like 4-5-6 levels above them, that’s why I’m able to beat them.
Floyd Mayweather Jr.
At least PAC's ulcer is real. Is that Mayweather's excuse why he was pummeled by Hatton for several rounds? The same reason why he almost lost to DLH?

Bottom line Manny wants Mayweather because it makes more
sense for him legacy and $ wise. Arum is pushing Cotto on
Pacquiao because their both under his company. Several articles
before this one Pacquiao representatives even said a Cotto fight
would make no sense for Manny at this point. Cotto gets props
for fighting the top guys at 147 and he and Margarito were there
when Floyd was there but so was Judah who was the undisputed
champ and NEITHER one fought him first or Baldomir who was the
recognize champ after beating Judah and Floyd beat them both
to become the champ at 147. Who has done it since he retired
at WW? If Cotto/Manny happens I'm happy if it doesn't I'm not
mad at it because that means the fight to settle all fights will
happen, Pac/PBF. I just didn't agree with what you said Floyd
was the easiest when Cotto takes the most punishment in his
fights of all 3 that's all.

Talk about delusional. Hatton pummeled PBF for several rounds?
That's why he got knocked out by a check hook by Floyd who was
moving backwards? Oscar De La Hoya who got his trigger jammed
by Floyd and out landed in every punch category?
