Then who is the best at 140? Ortiz? Hatton was the lineal champ. He was for several years. Until somebody beats him at 140, he is the best. Their are other champs with alphabet belts which they won recently. But they have not defeated Hatton.

Who do you think would beat Manny at 140? Are they better than Cotto, Mosley or Mayweather? Manny is fighting at WW now because that's where the best are. Eventhough he is naturally smaller. In the same manner he went after the Mexican legends.

So then your argument is....that pacs resume is superior to those mentioned. Thats basically what you are telling me. In which pac, this very moment, is top 5 or top 3 all time. Is that the argument you are about to make?

started from 106 destroying people up to (correction) 147 lbs.: no one
difference in weight of first belt to last 28 lbs: no one

          • Might as well be for the title when Cotto just came in 146 and defened his belt against Clottey. If Cotto comes in 145, how can you say its not for the title??

Um if the fighters sign a contract that agree what does your opinion or mine matter anyway? If the fighters agree they agree.

He is just telling you to look at pac's achievements. Don't discredit what pac has done. He might not have accomplished some of the things that those greats have done, but he also achieved things that nobody has done.

He don't have to do all the things those greats have done to be mentioned among them.

That's a separate issue to whether it's right for catchweight fights to be for world titles though. Chavez's win over Sweat Pea will always have an asterisk over it partly because many people suspect that Whitaker was in fact weight drained. That's not an excuse for Whitaker, but it does mean that it was less of a legacy fight for Chavez than it could and should have been. Same applies here.
Lol, I'm sorry what? You just owned yourself my friend. Youre either blind, just started watching boxing or the biggest Chavez hugger i know.

                  • I cant see why posters here are still pushing the catchweight issues when it seems that even the Cotto camp has already agreed on this. Plus the fact that Cotto can balloon to 155-160 compared to Manny who may even stay at 145 on fight night.

People here are just looking for loopholes in making excuses.

I dont think EVERYBODY here is just making excuses in case Cotto loses. In other words, criticizing the catchweight agreement does not a Pac-hater make. I admire Pac, and that admiration will only grow if he defeats Cotto. At the same time a lot of Pac fans (many of which did not follow boxing all that much until Pac came along) are too quick to use the hater card whenever any criticism, however minimal, is lobbed his way. Healthy debate is an essential component of the boxing universe, and in that vein I ask that Pac supporters try to stick as much as possible to observable facts and cogent arguments in order to avoid becoming like Mayweather's ignorant minions. (And just to be clear, not all Mayweather fans are like that, but we all know many of them are.)
