To sum this thread up. What Ortiz did, the referee is supposed to do.


The ref is supposed to say when a fighter has had enough. The ref is supposed to explain why he stopped a fight prematurely, explaing that he was looking out for the fighters health and career saying, "There is always next time".

A fighter is simply supposed to fight, if he can't fight, think defense and clinching. Try to recover and go on offense next round. PERIOD.

its a shame too, ortiz was a good prospect and now he is done and i really think that. ortiz will always be know as a quitter he cant escape that reality.ortiz shamed the mexican people and they will never forget. its going to take alot to come back from this and i dont think he will he is finish. he doest have heart and thats what mexican fighters are know for but not ortiz.

yeah, when you quit, you know you're going to get a lot of criticism... it takes more to quit than to go out on your shield... any bum can get pummeled and stopped, it takes some with real heart to be able to take all the grief, name calling, etc... that the media and NSB posters will do to assassinate your character, especially considering you're of mexican descent who are known for their machismo.

If I didn't know any better I would have thought that you were being sarcastic. C'mon pull, you can't seriously be believing what you just posted there. The last thing on the mind of a boxer being pummeled and on the verge of quitting is thinking about what NSB posters would be posting about him. I am willing to bet my left testicle that he does not give a crap about any of us. He just didn't want to take any more punishment and the prospect of getting hurt some more is what pushed him to do what he did.

i had no problem with him quitting. that cut was bad and the swelling was growing by the second so i don't blame him for making a smart decision. the problem i had was him admitting it and then some in the interview. he should have come up with a better excuse.
