            pff

damn, it seems there are more people who admire ortiz for quiting than people who give credit to maidana for the win.

I would rather come back and fight properly and healthily another day and win."

I think he gave us a good fight and will surely be back, hopefully better than ever and with the mind set to now make sure he doesn't do what wankers like the majority of this board want him to do.

Get over yourselves you bunch of hypocritical ******. Every single one of you would ****e your pants in a second if faced with the prospect of some guy across the ring who has knocked out every single one of his opponents, and he wants to literally pulverize your face into moosh.

Oh, wait, that's right, you all just sit on your arses and play on your computer typing about a fighter who gives you entertainment as being a ***** for providing you with one of the best fights of the year so far! You ****ing bunch of wanking **** ******s. Damn, I'm sick of hearing pathetic little kids whine about a fighter quitting. How many of you have been smashed in the face over and over by a guy with serious power? None of you! Christ, Id like to take a bat to some of you losers calling him a quitter or a *****. Not a single one of you who call him that would even know what it's like to step into that ring and fight someone desperate to kick your head in. You all disgust me.

I think anything he wants to be he could be and he still get a chance to fight again.

But at the end you will be alway a fighter nothing else after awhile. That happens to many people who just dont know to do anything but to box

MMA fighters quit because they know if they dont they will get their arm, or leg broken or they will pass out.

A serious injury like a brake could take months to heal and so they are taking into consideration their carrer on the whole not just the one fight.

I watched the Ortiz fight just now and in my eyes he was winning until he took those big rights in the 5th.

Nobody can ever condone somebody for quitting as we can never put ourselfs in their shoes at that moment in time.

But I think he made it evident he will never be the boxing great people where trying to make him into.

You're mistaking the point. No one is admiring him for it, and despite the title of the thread, no one wants to see a fighter quit, especially when it was looking to become such an amazing fight, but, when there are ten thousand threads bagging the guy for doing it and all the weak name calling etc etc, and only two about Maidana and his great, gutsy performance, that is when things just become sad.

I don't think anyone has anything but admiration for Maidana, and if there had been more threads about his great win with the will and determination he showed to take it instead of every second thread by some internet tough guy calling Ortiz a '***** quitting *****', then no one here would be in this thread nor would it have even been written.

Thank you. It seems usually those who ***** and moan about a fighter quitting have never actually stepped into a ring. I do prefer to see someone willing to put it all on the line but I can't be mad at someone for not wanting to put their health at risk for my entertainment.

He is a bright, good looking, young man, and should concentrate on his education from now on. I don't think he has the right metality needed to become a great world champion.
See, this is basically what it comes down to. Ortiz is certainly no coward or whatever you want to call him. He has spent his life getting in the ring and fighting his heart out, but, he simply may not have the true deep hearted desire that you need to become a great world champion. There is nothing wrong with that and that is the point of this thread.

It may have taken him being drawn into the deepest water of his boxing career to realise that he doesn't want to risk his later health for people who just want to see bloodshed. It is boxing/fighting, but it's also just another sport and entertainment for us. He put on an entertaining show and if you disregard that he quit it was still a great fight.

The fact is though that he is not what everyone here has been calling him, and he doesn't deserve such a disservice as it may be as simple that he only just found out that he isn't willing to sacrifice everything to win one boxing match. Maidana was and that's cool, great fight for him and he will probably go far from it, but it doesn't detract from everything Ortiz did. He may just not have the mentality needed as 'timba' said above. I don't see why people feel the need to go berserk over it.

Anyway, we don't know yet. It could have just been one of those exceptional circumstances. He may come back and go through an entire career of great fights with wars throughout and never quit again. Sometimes it takes the smallest, spur of the moment decision that stops things and maybe his mind froze. Know one knows for sure. We can only wait and see what the future holds for him and whether he can come back better.
