WAs a great fight! I'd love to see a rematch, and props to Ortiz for not making a BS excuse. A real man knows when to quit.

          I like this statement here.

Some guys are more fortunate than others in that often, the ref can see a fighter doesn't want to continue and will just stop it rather than wait for either more damage to be inflicted or the fighter just stop the fight on his own.

Watching the Abraham fight, it was clearly obvious in that last round that his opponent really didn't want to continue any furhter. Dude went down three times from shots that didn't appear to be very hard and the ref still let it go on. But you could tell from the fighters body language that he was just hoping for it to be over. Luckily for him, after the third knockdow, Abraham noticed the corner throwing in the towel before the action ensued.

I think people forget how hurtful pride can be. I'm not a fan of fighters giving up, as I like to see action all the way to the very end, but who am I to say they shouldn't reserve their health for another day?

I think in this particular case, people are lashing out because what was turning out to be a classic fight, was suddenly stopped.

5 knockdowns in 6 rounds, the people were loving every minute of it. My wife watched the fight with me today and understood why I was yelling my ass off last night.

I think he gave us a good fight and will surely be back, hopefully better than ever and with the mind set to now make sure he doesn't do what wankers like the majority of this board want him to do.

Get over yourselves you bunch of hypocritical ******. Every single one of you would ****e your pants in a second if faced with the prospect of some guy across the ring who has knocked out every single one of his opponents, and he wants to literally pulverize your face into moosh.

Oh, wait, that's right, you all just sit on your arses and play on your computer typing about a fighter who gives you entertainment as being a ***** for providing you with one of the best fights of the year so far! You ****ing bunch of wanking **** ******s. Damn, I'm sick of hearing pathetic little kids whine about a fighter quitting. How many of you have been smashed in the face over and over by a guy with serious power? None of you! Christ, Id like to take a bat to some of you losers calling him a quitter or a *****. Not a single one of you who call him that would even know what it's like to step into that ring and fight someone desperate to kick your head in. You all disgust me.

if everybody decided to quit like he did, boxing would've been dead already

thank god not every fighter has so little guts and heart

I don't applaud him for quitting, because that is not what boxing is about. However I do respect his decision to quit. Boxing is a dangerous sport and the only person who will look out for you, is yourself.

He is a bright, good looking, young man, and should concentrate on his education from now on. I don't think he has the right metality needed to become a great world champion.

I still think Ortiz should have given a little more in the 6th. He's really ***ed his career up now, and it only just began!

He took some huge shots but it was not like he was getting absolutely demolished. Take Earl vs Katsidis for instance; Earl was getting battered by Katsidis, but because he showed grit and determination he managed to knock down a fighter who is a few levels above him, and make a fight of it. If Ortiz had the heart of a D level fighter like Graham Earl, he could have managed to beat Maidana. Instead he gave in when the going got tough. I don't blame him for doing so, but if you can't take the rough with the smooth, you won't make it. It's a shame because Ortiz is very talented.
