You're crazy. He lost to Margs and Cotto who are both below Shane at ww and arguably PW is better than them all so how does Clottey make the "top 3"
when there's at least 4 guys better than him?

no it isnt, cotto and vargas arent exactly far apart in the skill department. If you know vargas, technically he was skilled, like cotto, he had holes in his defense, he was one of the top fighters going into the olympics and his career was rushed way too fast.

Vargas problem was that when main events pushed him quickly, they had a reason. They didint know if vargas would spin himself into trouble or not since he was constantly out of control and lived in the fast lane all the time. It was either push him and make the most off him, or wait and see him potentially derail his career (tapia/spadafora)

the tito fight cut years off his career.

a young vargas is better than a prime cotto, that said, cotto as is, is better than a post-Tito Vargas.

i think even post tito vargas would beat cotto.

tito ruined him but the delahoya ko made him shot.

he was still capable until after delahoya.

the embarassing ko loss to oscar , the roid scandal , etc. was not good for the boy.

the vargas that gave oscar all he could handle ktfo cotto.

Purely debatable...that said, it would have been a good fight to see them both matched up

                  cotto fans will deny it.

but vargas is superior to cotto.

                  the skillset is similar.

vargas has more power and a better chin.

the young vargas at 147 beats the prime cotto at 147.

A better chin?, yet Cotto has never been KOd and his KD was a push off. His lone TKO loss was voluntary.

A matchup between these two would end up much like Vargas' match with DLH and Trinidad, with Vargas kissing the canvas. It would only prove what he truly was, a dude who wrote more checks than he could cash

The only thing he has over Cotto is power, that's it. Cotto edges him in nearly every category. They are close, and I'm sure it'll be exciting, but he'll be on the losing end like all his other big time matches
