I don't know man, not to sound racist or anything but the writer makes some decent points.

I also think its due to blacks being very successful in other sports outside of boxing.

Would you agree if he said Mexico sorely needs a real idol like Manny?

Nope. Apart from soccer, boxing seems like the other sport Mexicans love.

Kids are not looking up to Mayweather, they are looking up to Lebron or Kobe etc.

I hope you can see what I'm saying, if I'm not too clear on this I'm sorry.

Now there is a ******ed racist statement. (Whether intentional or not) It implies that blacks are more likely than other races to breed / produce top athletes.

I suppose then you would have no problem with the white racist stereotype of blacks of being musical and athletic but lazy, shiftless and ******. If you embrace part of this idiocy because it suits your mood of the moment then you open yourself up to the rest of the racist idiocy.

black America is doing just find with its icons........a Pac is NOT needed.......thanks but no thanks..........some of you people need to be educated on certain issues before you start runnin' off at the mouth.......America is a divided country........divided by race, religion, gender, and any other thing you can think of..........so while Pac and Hatton can have a UNITED country back them.......dudes like Mayweather, Mosley and Hopkins are lucky if they can get a section of a small city in a big state........African Americans have DOMINATED almost every REAL sport in the world.........we have great sporting icons that Pac or no other athlete will ever be greater than........Muhammad Ali is the "GREATEST"........Michael Jordan is the "GREATEST"...........Hank Aaron and Jackie Robinson is the "GREATEST"...........Arthur Ashe was the "GREATEST".........Doug Williams played the big game better than Jim Kelly, Dan Marino and many others.........but you wouldn't know that because when you look at black America you tend to look for whats WRONG or bad because thats how this world has programmed you.........look for the good and you'll find alot of that there.......its there just look with a open mind!

Pac is cool but you have to do some prison time to REALLY be a icon in black America these days.......the hood don't like politicians!!!

its also due to the fact that as a culture we have lost interest in the sport, someone pointed out that desperation is usually why boxers box, the faster money is in other sports, and you dont get your faced punched in while doing so. Black america doesnt need to focus on its next boxer, thats hardly an issue.

The writers points are mostly the obvious and most of the time redundant, notice the response among blacks in this thread, that should tell you how we feel about the argument itself. Its mostly non-blacks telling other blacks how we should feel about our own community, culture and our place in the sport. Thats why to me, the article is just ****ing ******.

Remember all those italian, irish, ***ish etc boxers? Why not write an article on them? Blacks are just more polarizing to write about. Everyone notices us.

pinoys and spanish people etc. have a lot of fans that support in big numbers because they're seen as the minority. it's still an american sport. a big majority of pinoy boxing fans support pac, but there's blakcs who support mayweather, some who support rjj, etc. they're a minority so it just works like that.
