Of course Bro. Thats why I try to stay away from the flaming. Its makes it easier to appreciate the fighter. When people go on ridiculous rants sometimes it makes u want the fighter they like to lose so they can deal with it. Lots of people feel that way about Floyd too. Its real unfortunate. Pac is a great fighter who u have to like especially when he was seen as more of an underdog early on. I wish people would lets fighters be great and not have to bash other fighters to prove false points.
Black America Sorely Needs Real Icon Like Pacquiao

I understand what TS is getting at, but pound for pound this thread title is the worst sentence that's ever been written. TERRIBLE choice of words which is responsible for most of the confusion and justifiably offended posters in the responses that followed. Some solid posts mixed in with the bathwater though:
Good point...who is the most prominent Caucasian athlete in America? Socio-economically the WASP old boys network of power has been abrogated by new money and new ethnicities. The KKK's worst nightmare from 40 years ago is now a reality.
Exactly. You know why my grandfather loved Joe Louis? Because after he served as a major in World War II, the only jobs he could get were working at the post office and cleaning other people's houses. He loved watching Louis beat up White people and he wasn't ashamed to say it. Now we have *****. Times have changed. We don't have fighters that we are endeared to in the same way as our parents or grandparents generation was endeared to Ali or Leonard. One reason could be that we are in a much better social standing in this country and the world than was the case during the era of Ali, Frazier, Robinson, Leonard, etc. But, then as far as ticket sales go, I just don't see that changing. I highly doubt there will come a day when we come out in force like the fans of Pacquiao, Hatton, Cotto, or Chavez.
This is the main reason why the TS's comparison doesn't hold water. An American fighter can never mean as much to the American people as Pac does to Pinoys. I mean, Pacquiao IS the welfare system in General Santos City right now. My girlfriend is working 3 jobs to be able to pay for her other two sisters to come from the Phillippines to the states because it's such a bleak place. The sun shines brightest when it reaches the darkest caves....
What I think the author was trying to convey was that what boxing and black fans 'need' is a true boxing superstar with an exciting personality, who is engaging and is black. It's been silent since Tyson left for Black America and it's no coincidence that the sport has suffered since then, for America. As for sports, a country produces more and more champs in any type of sport when the culture is conducive to it. I.E. African American basketball players are abundant whereas players actually from Africa are not. It's the culture of American Basketball mixed with the athleticism of African Americans (Just an example). All of these are excellent points. The culture of the Black community has mutated so dramatically over the last 20 years that there's not much of anything that you could positively identify as a Black community. It's not like we're in the 60s and all Black people are united in The Struggle. Nowadays it's everyman for himself. I'd go so far as to argue that even if Sugar Ray Robinson were to reincarnate and start fighting again now, his impact as a Black culturual icon wouldn't be nearly as significant as it was 50 years ago. But at the same time, it certainly wouldn't hurt if another fighter of his caliber were to come along soon and reinvigorate the sport for a new generation of fans that currently couldn't care less about boxing.America is a divided country........divided by race, religion, gender, and any other thing you can think of..........so while Pac and Hatton can have a UNITED country back them.......dudes like Mayweather, Mosley and Hopkins are lucky if they can get a section of a small city in a big stateComment

Black America really needs more Icons like Common, John Legend, *****, Denzel etc etc. People who are gifted but succeed in school first. People who stress succeeding in the class room; and learn the values of discipline, respect, honor etc etc.
Not "pick up a ball and if this dont work out fuck life" or "pick up a mic, act gangsta, and rhyme."Comment

Bitter and the most ******ed, idiot dumb racist poster on this forum. It takes only one guy who annihilated your mayan warriors old, young, legend or not. I lost count and can't recall how many of these your mayan warriors he annihilated! Can you tell me the numbers? Clue 10?
