diaz fight was already planned by arum before pacquiao even fought marquez.

that's why they put david diaz on the undercard of the pacquiao-marquez fight.

the fight was pretty much a done deal as long as pacquiao and diaz both won.

that's why when they asked pacquiao about a 3rd fight with marquez after the fight he said he thought the fights with marquez was done.

because arum already planned him to move up to 135 and fight diaz next.

      both were arum's fighters.

after diaz , we probably would have seen him against juan diaz or nate campbell or joel casamayor or even juanma marquez.

problem is floyd pulled out of the oscar fight , oscar needed an opponent and hatton wanted a tuneup before fighting oscar.

blame floyd , oscar and ricky.

everyone thought manny had no chance against oscar. i thought oscar would take manny's head off.

when could a soto fight have been made?

don't forget that washed up barrera was still ranked higher than soto at 130.

when did soto even get a belt at 130? end of 2008?

manny left 130 after the marquez fight in june.

campbell was not even top ranked at 135 'til he beat juan diaz. that was when march 2008?

          come on now.
I'll reply to this post in two parts since I brought up Barrera and De La Hoya. Barrera fought a decent fight against Pacquiao in their rematch I think, even though it was timid. But the reason Pacquiao deserves to lose points for this is because Barrera was coming off a loss to Juan Manuel Marquez. That loss was a debatable one, but it was still a defeat. I'll admit that I thought De La Hoya was gonna cream Pacquiao too, but in hind sight I realize how hyped up that win really is. Roach went on record and said that De La Hoya was past it and couldn't pull the trigger anymore. He was going to penalize De La Hoya for however many pounds he came in overweight as well. All of these things will lead people to believe that Roach and Pacquiao are being slick with their matchmaking. And any reasonable minded person would know that Soto posed a bigger threat to Manny than those two guys did at the time.

I'm wasting my time here. We all are. This fight will get made and it will be at 144. I said this ****ing ages ago!
he never said he would fight at 144 the phillipno article were lying because the day after this article came out there was one where cotto said he would not fight below 145 and in the aarticle it says that they are going to try to weight drain miguel

U can dissect any fighter, any great fighter's resume & find imperfect little details.
Dead on. Hagler fought a guy with 38 losses for his 45th pro fight. However, I didn't lose any respect for Marv after discovering this.

That's what I hope happens - I hope Cotto sticks to his guns. But if Cotto does sign because he gets seduced by the money, and if he comes in weight drained, then while he'll have no excuse for losing, because he signed the contract, many people (including me) will give Manny no credit from for a win in those circumstances either (and don't forget that it's three years since Cotto has weighed in at less than 146). And that would be a shame, as it could have been one for the ages, which could have raised Manny's ATG rating dramatically. To me it's a sad missed opportunity.

As I think you know, Freddie is by far my favourite trainer, and I have huge respect for him. But I'm entitled to criticise him when I feel he's in the wrong, and I think he's in the wrong in this case. As I said elsewhere, I think he's seriously under-estimating Pac's ability, as I think he would certainly be able to be competitive at 147, and would have a good outside chance of winning. If he won at 147, that would do far more for his legacy than a win at catchweight. Many respected boxing analysts think that's the case, not just posters on this forum, which is why I asked you what you thought of Cliff's article.

Boxing is fine but is in nowhere near the health it once used to be. It's no longer a mainstream sport as it was when Leonard, Duran, Hagler and Tyson were fighting.

One bull**** fight won't on its own seriously damage boxing - except in an opportunity cost sense, because when you consider what a wonderful fight it could have been, and how much it could have benefited boxing, if the fight had been made at Welterweight, I see it as a tremendous missed opportunity, both for the long term popularity of boxing and for Manny's legacy.

Still we can agree to disagree.

                      Oh FFS. OK, whatever.

145 pounds, 144 pounds. I'm getting way too wrapped up in this crap. Either make the fight or don't. I really don't give a **** who these guys fight, I'll be watching, but I am about to stop caring about the details as... of... right... now. I need to light a fat one.
