Where he started at the age of 16 is irrelevant. He is now an exceptionally strong and powerful Jnr Welterweight. He was the first Jnr Welterweight Hatton has ever faced who looked stronger and more powerful than Hatton in the ring. He is far more likely to be competitive at Welterweight than any other Jnr Welterweight is.

i for one wants manny to fyt at 147 to solidify his ATG status.

but i cannot argue against him fyting at a reasonable catchweight of 144 if he feels really treatened at 147.

If he doesn't think he can beat Welterweights unless they are weight drained, he should defend his lineal Jnr Welterweight title against the top contenders in his division, as all great champions do. That would be far better for his legacy than fighting a weight drained fighter from another division. He can fight the Bradley-Campbell winner next, which would be a great fight.

and why would you think cotto is not in his best if he fyts at 144??

a) Because Cotto says so, and (b) because if he would be as good at 144 as he would be at 147, Roach and Pac would have no reason to ask him to come down in weight. The only possible reason for asking him to do that is in the hope that he will be weight drained.

He may be seduced by the money. He's already said that he can't go below 145 without being weight drained, but he is being told that he will lose a huge pay day unless he comes down further. If he does, Cotto will have no excuse, because he signed out of greed, but Manny will get no credit from most people if he wins. It would be bad for both fighters' legacies.
