Tim Sylvia was never anything special. Really.

Nothing special? The guy has beaten a ton of great MMA'ers and is a year removed from fighting the best HW in MMA, and 1.5 years removed from fighting for a UFC title. 2 years ago this guy went 5 rounds with Randy Couture.

Sylvia is not a top 5 HW anymore, but hes definitely top 10 based on track record.

This is incredible for Mercer. Mercer is god damn 48 years old and showed up for a paycheque and still whooped Sylvia.

Your ******. Noone's talking about how GREAT Fedor's standup game is. Tim Sylvia was never that great and that's what happens when you play into your opponent's strengths.

So Tim Sylvia tried to stand and trade with a boxer and got Ktfo. That's what happens. You dont come into a fight playing into your opponent's strengths. Just like in boxing you dont let an infighter walk right in on you.

If Sylvia actually used his brain and made some use of his jiujitsu black belt you'd still be hatin on mma and saying mercer was old as ****.

Sylvia aint crap on the ground. Hes a standup fighter who knocked around Noguiera for 2.5 rounds before getting submitted. That fight was less than 2 years ago.

And it's already been proven that world class boxers cant make it in MMA with only boxing.

What world class boxers have tried MMA? NONE.

Arguably the best boxer to try MMA was only a decent one at best and hes 5-0. Others with boxing backgrounds who have tried MMA include Lytle, Davis, Hicks, Noons and all of them have done well.

Kickboxers like Crocop, Hunt, Overeem, Manhoef have also transitioned with some or even great success.

Stop lying. You and Burnell are spewing absolute lies. Sylvia was a good HW in MMA who beat and competed with some very good opponents.

And before you start saying that's some nobody boxer that's former NABF light heavyweight champion Art Jimmerson. His pro boxing record at the time was 35wins 5losses.

WOW, NABF? Are you serious, well hes an alltime great than. He finished with 18 losses by the way.

And are MMA fans that ****** and desperate that an Art Jimmerson fight from UFC 1 is their best example.

THE DUDE WAS WEARING A 10oz GLOVE. The UFC back than was just a Gracie informerical. It says more about Gracies character that Gracie didnt have the confidence to beat a 2 handed fighter, so he had to fight a 1 handed fighter instead.

I laugh at that Jimmerson example. What an absolute joke.

Benji Radach vs Danny Lafever is another example. Radach was a 14-1-1 MMA fighter and he fought a local tough guy with a recreational boxing background. And Lafever lit him up.

Im not saying Mercer could go into MMA and wipe out every HW, the bottom line is BOXERS Can beat the best MMA given the stylistic matchup. MMA'ers CANT win in boxing regardless of the style.

You have to realize, Fedor is actually smart enought to not box with boxer.



Mercer couldn't make it in K1, and he got choked out by a ****in street fighter.

He was lucky enough that Timmah was dumb enough and wanted to play the boxing game with much better boxer.



Maybe not the world class but:

Yosuke Nishijima is 0 - 5 in MMA, he wasn't a world class boxer, but his boxing was much better than from the regular MMA guy.

And he got owned on the ground by a brawlers like Cyborg and Baroni.

Francois Botha:

Competed with the best in boxing, got owned by a 30 kg's lighter judoka who made his full contact fighting debut.

And your favourite Ray Mercer who got choked out by a street fighter named Kimbo Slice. Difference between Kimbo and Tim is that Kimbo is smart enough to realize that he shouldn't play boxing game with excellent boxer.

Mercer went the distance with Musashi for christs sake. And all those guys you mentioned competed in god damn Japan for criminal organizations. That didnt stop Botha from pumping out a couple wins against K-1 legends despite being WAYYY OUT OF HIS PRIME.

And give me a break with Nishijima. MMA fans just grasp at straws. They have nothing, Nishijima beat ABSOLUTELY NOBODY relevant in boxing. Im actually offended you brought him up.

I laugh at the "boxers have a punching chance in an MMA fight, but MMA fighters don't have a puncher's chance in boxing" argument. Makes zero sense, since anyone with a powerful punch - boxer or not - can connect on anybody and score a flash knockout.

In fact, boxers would get smoked in a pure stand-up fight against a Muay Thai or kickboxing-styled MMA fighter. Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida would completely overwhelm any boxer of similar size in a 4 point stand-up fight.

Wrong. MMA fighters are not on the level of boxers...in boxing. I'm pretty sure a boxer would get clowned in kick boxing, muay thai boxing, wrestling and submission grappling competitions against MMA fighters. DOH!

Bottom line is boxers are paid 50x the money and mmgay fans like to watch semi nude men "grapple" with each other.

Actually, most pro boxers make less than MMA fighters, it's just the money-stealers at the top (aka "Money" Mayweather) who make the big bucks while the undercard boxers are getting the shaft.
