He was a champ for a long time because he was a cage hugger. All he did was neutralize. Sure, he'll actually end fights, but his problem is that he's got to have a constant fire under his ass to do so. And if you neutralize his gameplan, he shuts down.

    He's nothing.

      Another MMA FAIL!!!
Your ******. Noone's talking about how GREAT Fedor's standup game is. Tim Sylvia was never that great and that's what happens when you play into your opponent's strengths.

So Tim Sylvia tried to stand and trade with a boxer and got Ktfo. That's what happens. You dont come into a fight playing into your opponent's strengths. Just like in boxing you dont let an infighter walk right in on you.

If Sylvia actually used his brain and made some use of his jiujitsu black belt you'd still be hatin on mma and saying mercer was old as ****.

How can he use some of his JJ whe got KTFO in 9secs???Just accept the fact that a has been boxer or a no name boxer can make it in MMA but a world class MMA fighter wouldnt make it boxing.

Well...Fedor studies under Ernesto Hoost, so his stand up is pretty solid. He relies mostly on his Sambo to win matches which is a mix of striking and grappling.

And he's former SPETZNAZ. There is no luck.

He got ktfo in 9 seconds because he tried to stand and trade with a better puncher instead of using his advantages. Get it through your skull. If i'm better than you at basketball but you're better than me in tennis then you'rve obviously not gonna wanna play me 1 on 1 if you want a shot at winning.

And it's already been proven that world class boxers cant make it in MMA with only boxing.

This is what happens when you get boxer vs grappler matchup where the grappler actually uses his head and understands he's outgunned on his feet.

And before you start saying that's some nobody boxer that's former NABF light heavyweight champion Art Jimmerson. His pro boxing record at the time was 35wins 5losses.

no doubt sylvia is either ****** or slow.I don't like mma but there are some great athletes in the sport.I don't care how big sylvia is,he was ****** to attack mercer like that.mercer has absorbed punches from the hardest punchers in icing over the last 20years.kimbo choked him out but sylvia tried to kick him....mercer must have been laughing when he dropped him.several people I talked to yesterday commented on this fight.I laughed at all of them because they all picked sylvia.lol! I thought it was a boxing match & everyone still picked sylvia.I was the ONLY one who said mercer would win by ko.mercer was a GOLD medal boxer & former wbo champ what gave sylvia or ANY mma fan the idea sylvia could win a boxing match? I laughed even harder when I woke up today & read it was a mma fight not boxing...LOL! Just goes to show you That a boxer can successfully move to mma much easier than a mma guy moving to boxing.you can't just walk into boxing & have success but you can walk into the octagon & succeed.boxing has it's problems.too many belts, corrupt judges & promoters, etc.but mma is getting seriously watered down now.you think they would have learned from boxing.I could go get a fight contract if I wanted.I know several non athletes who can't chew gum & think but still can get a fight contract from local mma clubs.mma will never overtake boxing.the same guys who can't chew gum & think would never be able to succeed at boxing.

Before anyone starts saying that this shows boxers would beat MMA fighters in MMA, lets not forget that Mercer lost to Kimbo Slice in under a minute...

What it does show is that a boxer will always have a puncher's chance in any fight, especially if the opponent chooses to stand and trade as Sylvia did.
